Hmm, maybe someone else can help you out on the leg colors. I have to say though, if your feed store advertised them as Americanas, that is what you should have got. I would demand your money back, especially since people charge more for pure Americana's than EE's! Oh, and work into the deal that you keep the chicks anyway. It is not right for them to not know what they are selling, and they need to know it. If they don't meet your demands, tell them they lost you as a future customer to their store. Period. Just what I would do, it isn't right!

I need you to come do the talking. Sounds good to me BUT they spelled it Amer-I-cauna not Ameraucana so that was a giveaway. I just didn't know at the time. Not sure they'd care now that I paid and left. They did tell me I didn't have to take them.

Once again I am looking for a bantam hen that is SQ and PQ for my daughter to have for 4H. Cute factor counts but friendly is most important.

Question: I bought chicks today which I ordered way back-- the second installment of my order to come in so far. I got told today that the Ameraucanas I bought today are called EE by the company which set me off! I wanted Ameraucanas not EE or OE-- not that there is anything wrong with them but that isn't what I ordered. How do I know that I have Ameraucanas and not a cull/mix? The guy at the counter didn't even know Ameraucana and Araucana were different. Ger. I walked out with three very cute and easy to handle chicks. I've looked on line but I don't know... Is there a dead giveaway? They have cheek ruffs. I can't tell leg color. They were in the box and now under a red heating light.

Question: How can they sell only 1 or more if these are only a week or less? I thought there were rules stating 6 or more unless it was a private farm.

If the chicks came from a hatchery chances are they are easter eggers, that is they will not fully meet the APA standard for Ameraucana and they will not breed true. Ameraucanas need to be one of the accepted colors i.e. wheaten, brown red, black etc. need all of the breed characteristics, need to lay a blue to blue green egg (pure blue being preferable) and need to breed true. Breeding true means that when you breed wheaten x wheaten you get wheaten not a grab bag of random colors which is what hatchery stock tends to produce.Most easter egger chicks have chipmunk stripes and if they are various colors without designation they are easter eggers. Read up on the BYC Ameraucana thread to learn more and good luck with your chicks, easter eggers can be terrific farmyard layers.

I do believe that even feed & farm stores are suppose to abide by the State law. I know some do but not all. It is suppose to be 6 chicks under 8 weeks old off your farm. It can be however different varieties as long as from same seller.

Is it possible that you are getting less because they are considering it all one order? We ordered some through Blue Seal in Bridgton and paid up front. I would imagine if the hatchery then had trouble filling orders and had to do it in batches, that I would have still been able to get the chicks I paid for because they were sold to me as one group, just delivered seperately?

I am interested in hatchable turkey and duck eggs. I am not sure what breeds u still have or is it a mixed lot. The craigslist posting was gone when i checked. -Caitlin with the NZ white rabbits and guinea hens to be at swap

All my turkey eggs are spoken for, but I can bring duck eggs...they are a mix right now as we have not separated them into breeding groups yet.
I will also be bringing chicken and quail eggs that have not been spoken for yet.
