i am with you on that i also hate puting an animal out of its suffering or when a cows calf doesnt make it you can tell when a cow is sad to trust me

Morning Ellie I love my Barred Hollands, but the prettiest I've had were mutts. Silver Spangled Hamburg roo/Delaware hen produced gorgeous cockerels. btw, still don't know how the hamburg did it as he wasn't in the breed pen.

Today’s question is

Why and how did you get into chickens.

My answer-I have always had birds. My siblings showed chickens for 4-h. They didn’t enjoy it but I still wanted to try my siblings preference was cattle showing so I tried both I liked showing cows but chickens was my preferred one I still do both an d have joined the poultry team for ffa where we judge meat and eggs it’s fun to see both sides.

2x I had true free range chickens as a kid, 8 yrs old and 14 yrs old ... they never made it to winter before the predators ate them. No money for predator proofing for chickens someone gave me said the parents...Fast forward to a couple years since retirement, ....
1) I decided I needed something to get me moving in the winter...
2) I could save money if I raised my own organic meat and eggs

well i was half right and I haven't lost any of these chickens to predators. It's been since 2015, so I have been lucky
