I apologise it’s just what I’ve been told but if you have had a good experience by all means buy one if your aloud :)
It's easy for a neglected ferret to become an evil rodent. So I see where people come from. It's hard to create a monster ferret though so it's worth it to me! As long as they're happy they're well behaved.

I think your mind is already made up, but I certainly will not get a ferret. Rabbits are great. We had a hedgehog and he was alright - pretty chill really but most at night with his wheel. I prefer a dog, maybe a cat. Ferrets are stinky and will get into plenty of trouble on toy if they get out. I am not saying they cannot be tamed, but they are aggressive and very curious by nature. If you want a small animal in a cage get a hamster or ginea pig.

My son has two ferrets/polecats. He works them though so they are not full on pets. Yes I was concerned about them and my birds but even with the ferrets lose in the garden they haven’t bothered. Obviously the ferrets have not been unsupervised and they can be caught easily. Don’t really notice the smell anymore from them but then again they are out in the garden. Gin & Tonic are super funny little creatures and great fun to watch with their antics! I wasn’t keen at first but they have grown on me.

Nothing against it, I haven't needed to take mine to vet yet because he is still under 1 year. However, your dogs and cats (if you have any) can also catch distemper from the ferret that can catch it from your clothes or germs in the air you bring home with you from other infected pet (at pet stores, rescue/shelter etc.) It would be really sad if you ferret, cat and dog all died. Nothing against your choice not to though. Very cute furbaby!
The risks for distemper are highly exaggerated according to my normal vet who grew up raising ferrets. thank you for your concern but I trust personal experiences of me, my friends, and my own personal vet over propaganda and hearsay.

Its funny everyone says how mean they can be. I have never had experience with a mean one and I have handled a dozen at least. I held a biter once but he wasn't mean, just a biter.

We would feed my cousins frogs that we caught. He would sneak over to you once he was aware of it and "hunt" it super quick then go to town on it but he wasnt mean or aggressive.

It is all highly dependent on how much attention they get / the quality of attention

oh and ferrets arent rodents, they are more closely related to dogs and cats then mice etc.

How cute is that weasel war dance!!?? <3

I might not even re-vaccinate mine after, as I am also assuming it's very by opinion (like have babies vaccinated). Thanks for the info from your trusted vet!! Most of them are nippers as babies but it doesn't hurt. Other than that I feel they're all really really nice

If you were going to get ferrets just be careful and besides where would you get one? The things are hard to buy! Mind that thought seeing as only the other day I saw some in the local pet store but even still be careful what you wish for. Getting ferrets could be a brilliant move but they could also be a terrible move
I will get them for around $100 off Gumtree, there is often a litter or 2 nearby on there, I have never seen them anywhere else, though my brother once saw them in petbarn.

Alright, my turn to chime in. I'm not sure why all these people that don't have ferrets are being so negative! Ferret's are very loving and loyal companions. They're best to get as baby's and they calm down quickly at a young age (by this I mean grow out of the nippy puppy stage). I got my ferret when he was VERY young from the spca for $50. He already had all the vaccinations he needed and I already had a cage for him. I spent a low amount of money to get ferret food, a hammock, ferret shampoo and a leash. I got cat toys (ferret safe) from the dollar store and he loves them. (Balls with bells in them). I got my ferret younger than most people are capable than getting them but it was an awesome thing to have accidentally have happened. I'd recommend, the younger the better. There are many different ferret colorings. My ferret is a 'sable mask' ferret. The ferret's you showed above are in order, dark polecat, lilac, chocolate (or sable mitt), albino and the last one is called black (or dark) eyed ferret. They're great pets but get board easy so be prepared to entertain. Use a proper cage and they'll never escape. Here's some pictures! BTW toys are very easy for ferrets. A box full of empty water bottles or a plastic bag are a world full of fun for hours. I would get the "dark polecat", but I am worried he would overheat to quickly outside [my ferret would be a mainly outside ferret, I spend most of my time outdoors, and dad doesn't really allow animals in the house, unless it is the best thing to do, like the guinea pigs last year [one actually died! :hit], or Maverick in a storm, or when we brooded the chicks, the ferret could probably come in on hot days but spend most of his time outdoors, plus I have never seen that type around, but I have seen the dark-eyed-white, so I will probably get a cinnamon, a dark-eyed-white, or a standard.

Hamsters are an illegal import here in Australia, and I already have a guinea pig lol! I just want something that is more interactive, Dad hates cats [:hit], but I might be able to get a ferret.
Also about the smell, he is going to be mainly outside, desexed [I have been told that helps?], and my nose is very well trained when it comes to very bad smells lol!

I might get him vaccinated every 1 to 2 years, we would be devastated if our dog caught it, and Dad would never let me have a ferret again ever.
