Hi,

I have a Light Sussex which has went broody. This is her first time and she is around 1 year old.

I have read broody hen only comes out for food 1-2 times a day. But she comes out 5-6 times a day. She puffs up when she is outside and does go back to sit again but I don’t think those hatching eggs will make it through.

This is her third day...I will candle the egg on 10th day. Don’t have much hope.

Just wondering if anybody has experienced the same.

I had a White Orpington that went broody, and she had pretty irregular times of coming out. Sometimes she'd be on the nest for the whole day, or come out as frequently as yours. Sometimes, she stayed outside for 2+ hours until I nudged her toward the coop, and she decided to sit again. She successfully hatched 5 chicks from 8 eggs. She had stepped on and broken a couple, which I wonder may be due to the frequent trips in and out. I would wait and candle as you said, good luck!
