10-20 gallons is perfect for a betta. I would do 20-40 if you want tankmates though.
For the pleco, I don't know if that's a good idea. The pleco isn't the problem, it's the betta. They are very territorial. You could try, but just be ready to separate them. You might also have more success if you get a female betta.
I prefer glass tanks, because plastic can scratch easily.
Thanks! I think I'll stick with one betta and 10-20 gals if I decide to go down that path again.

Ok, I lied. I’m thinking of getting a betta (m) and putting him in 10-20 gal tank. They’re like little fish dogs ☺️☺️☺️. Any thoughts on whether to go with a bigger tank? I wouldn’t want any tank mates beyond the chillest pleco ever. Also, has anyone tried plastic tanks?
Plecos get HUGE so please don’t put one in a 10 or even 20 gallon. Nowhere near big enough. Unless maybe you got a smaller pleco species? I believe there are smaller ones that might be fine in there. I’m not sure what kinds though. But the common plecos get to like 1-2 feet long so need A LOT of room.

Something small like a bristlenose or clown pleco would be fine in a 20. :)

Thanks! I always forget there’s other plecos  whenever I hear people say pleco I always assume they mean common since those are the most common.

And not everybody knows they get so big so I like to make sure.

Oh yeah, definitely. There are so many people who get common plecos, not knowing how huge they'll get. It's really sad.

Yeah it is!! When I got mine the girl at the pet store made sure I knew. She said someone had just brought one back that got huge.
