We have reverse osmosis for our drinking water. It can take a while to make a gallon, so you need a reservoir to hold water as it's filtered. Glad you got it figured out. You probably need the reverse osmosis to make the water safe for you to drink too.

We're going to get our drinking/ well water tested, it's possible we've had some canaries in the coal mine, you know? I did some research and found that yes, runoff from farm fields can contaminate a well with copper; there's copper in the pesticides and whatever else the farmers use on the fields. And I saw the farmer out spraying our field....with something... a few weeks ago. That would account for why the copper level has gotten so high, maybe. We've had so much rain and flooding, you can bet there's a lot of runoff, where there normally wouldn't be. High copper in the water can be, and usually is, from pipes in the house,, and most of the time you can get rid of it by just running the water for a few minutes first, which I haven't been doing til now. We have a finished basement, and the fish tank is in the basement, so now the bathroom down there where I get the water for the tank, doesnt get as much use as it did at one time when we had all our children living at home.

GH, no, we don't have city water, we have well water.

BG the old fancy goldfish was up and swimming this morning, though she still looks a little off, there's a definite improvement over the past few days. We're gonna continue with the treatment and water changes for the next few weeks, then re-test the water and decide where we're going from there.

Do you have copper water pipes?

How old is your house? Our house is 28 years old. Idk, I would think we'd have PVC for the lower level, because the plumbing there is newer...but what I read was that most houses, if not all...have some copper contamination from plumbing...either pipes or fixtures. Our well is pretty deep, so there shouldn't be all that much chance of contamination..but we've had excess rain for the past two years, so who knows.

Our house is over 100 years old. All the plumbing has been changed out. It's a smaller house with a single basement, so it probably wasn't too difficult.

We have a drilled well too. Ours was/is contaminated with some stuff too. There use to be gas or oil floating on the surface straight out of the well. We have always filtered our water since we bought it back in 1997. A lot of rural wells have some type of contamination. Everyone in my opinion should be running their drinking water through a reverse osmosis, even in the city. They will remove lead as well.
