Aaand im done cleaning my fish tank. I had to leave some biofilm there for when I get my shrimp. Has anyone here ever done a filter-less tank?
My 50-gallon is filterless. And I have 2 5-gallons and a 10-gallon that do have sponge filters but for all intents and purposes, they're filterless too.

The 50-gallon has been going for about 6 months now and I have not had any loss of either plants or creatures other than some ghost shrimp (which I can never keep alive). I can't claim to be an expert on filterless setups but so far I love it! The only downside I've come across so far is that the tank is so heavily planted that if I do need to get a fish out for whatever reason...it's basically impossible! You really don't want to be tearing up the plants or decor all that much, and you can't really add medications because of the plants and invertebrates, so unless you have a really slow fish that you can net easily, it's just going to have to deal with things on its own.

I use to have a chinese algea eater and red tail black sharks.
The chinese algea eater didnt last very long.
The red tail black sharks were in with the guppies.
My Red tails and chinese algae eaters would have what looked like dog fights of the air until one of them decided to give up turf. A spectacle for sure. I made sure there was room enough for them to share the tank.

I love fish with personality. Makes fish keeping so fun. One of the reasons I love she'll dwellers. If only I had a 10g...
