I guess to be able to sell hens in the spring I’ll have to buy chicks even earlier!

Yes, unless you decide it's worth dealing with the lower demand and lower selling price to sell them at a time that is more convenient for you.
 
Thank you for everyone's input!

I hope that other members continue to post their laying hen rotational plans/ideas/thoughts, so that other chicken keepers can continue to learn about rotating out old hens from their flock.:frow
 
The thing with plans...and chickens.... is a lot of time they don't work out. I was set up wit ha perfect rotation, I was pleased with old to young birds, loved my rooster and a coyote rearranged things for me! Ugh.

You might think too of a starter flock. I sold part of my flock with some older birds and younger birds.

Thing is, you can cheat on your numbers in the summer. Chicks are smaller, you can really have a lot more in the coop...but come the fall, you have to get down to the proper number or less for your coop before the long nights of winter.

I never really get a good plan to work - hence right now, I am too buying eggs, and pullets are waiting for the daylight to increase.
