FLORIDA is so Prehistoric!!!Bit by a SCORPION!!!OWIES!!!RANT

It's usually called Mexican Red Rump Tarantula, or another close variation of that theme. Very neat spiders. They were introduced in South Florida and now they are thriving, because they are originally from Central America, a very similar climate.

Nice looking spider. Now please tell us the whole story. I don't wanna Google it.
Does that spider eat scorpions or cats. Either is fine with me.

Oh wait. You did explain it. I type too slow.

hehe I will add that while I have yet to see a T take on a cat, that species is certainly capable of eating a scorpion.

And they will do it if they get come across one with no hesitation! Not aggressive towards humans, though. Most Brachy's aren't. I have one currently and he is an easy keeper!!

* Well, that's a relief, sort of. . . . DARE I ASK how big these 'brachies' are???

Sparrow just Pm'd me and didn't want to scare you. Those spiders are 6 feet long
and 2 feet high but only the Florida version. Good luck.

Brachypelma vagans can be, when measured diagonally across the body from front right foot to back left foot(or vice versa) 5 to a maximum of 6 inches across. Big enough to eat your pest species, but still average size in the tarantula world.

Uhh...yeah...I didn't want to let the secret out, but PurpleChicken is right in his spider specs. I keep mine in a coop/run in my backyar d.

* Some of them!! Not the ones that are out for bugs, but the ones that are going for stuff larger almost have to. Because of all the touchy-feely types though, they generally take the critters out of the public eye to off them.
