that is not always true OZ I assist a lot . My dentist gives me old dental picks and what I do is zip for the chick by cracking the shell all the way around and wait for it to push out on it's on . if you hit blood stop wait a while as in a hour or so . I'm not as gentle as the girls . you want to be sure the yoke has been absorbed before it comes out .
I'm hoping his hormones are just in an uproar. He doesn't really flog, he just kinda waddles toward me, like he wants to flog. But stops the second I turn to look at him (I'm always watching him, even when he thinks I'm not). He's got 3 girls, all to himself! All my other males have competition, but he doesn't. I might just need to put him in solitary confinement for a bit.

I NEED HELP ! a late pipper is still alive. Pipped yesterday evening and punched a little bigger hole this morning. How do I help it?
You sure you want to? I'm kind of against helping late chicks since I've now had to cull 2 today.
You can start by taking tweezers and chipping away a little along what would be the zip line. If you see any blood, put it back in the incubator and wait. Do a little more every so often, letting the egg warm back up in the incubator in-between.
Good luck.
I believe the most humane for the chick is often the hardest for the human.Poultry shears to the back of the neck, cutting off the head. I roll the chick into a paper towel and snip so I don't have to see. Then I drop it into the trash really fast and go cry.
Do you cute the membrane, too?
So even bantam Cochin roosters can be ornery and mean...! So every day is an ordeal with him..hope the Ameraucana roosters are easy to work with..,my largest blue wheaten boy chick also seems to be one of my wildest chicks. Hmm..
I hope it goes good Oz! This little chick means a lot doesn't she? Good luck! Want to see progress
Shhh... It's all part of the master plan Brucvl. Armand is tired of the cold WV winters. We're conspiring to convince his master that he's a bad rooster and needs to be exiled to South Carolina.Shhh... It's all part of the master plan Brucvl. Armand is tired of the cold WV winters. The egg I need help with is a purchased Silkie egg that is on day 22 and has been kicked around since Saturday.
