I think one of my black runners laid her first egg today, because it is a dark grey color. None of my chocolate runners every laid this color before. Is it normal for a black runner to lay this color, or does it mean she has a bit of Cayuga somewhere on her genetic line?

I get a cabbage, drill a hole right through it, push a string through it with a dowel and hand it form my run. They love it and it lasts about a week. Then you load up another one!

My black Runners lay blue eggs. That’s a really cool looking egg. Congrats! My 8 month old Fawn an White just started laying last week my 6 month old hasn’t yet nor my adults have not started back since last fall.

Right. Two of my chocolates lay a blueish green egg, and the other lays a whitish egg with a slight pink tint. That’s why I was thinking it had to be the black runners.

I also hung my Christmas tree in their run and every day I sprinkle mealworms and cat food all in it and that keeps them very busy!

I wasn’t expecting them to lay until the spring, but I went out to install a toy for them and found it. I’m over the moon right now!
Not so much for the ducks; they are terrified of the toy thus far!
