This morning I got to stand by and watch the flock. Those babies have fully integrated and are welcome to forage next to any of the bigs with no issues. Super happy about that. I’m positive there are three cockerels and three pullets. One of the black ones and the two white ones are the cockerels, I figured that as soon as I saw them. One of the white ones has a lot of mahogany in the wings so it’s likely from one of the SS, so I’m bummed about that, it’s also the biggest chick so would end up being a good sized boy.
Lucky you with the 50/50 split! My hens and I hatched less than 1/3 pullets this year. 3 out of 10. 😏 two of the males are only 3 and 4 weeks but I'm certain they are cockerels.
Last year was better. We hatched 4 pullets out of 7. I guess we all get a good year sometimes.

I’m sorry Janie. Some years are definitely better than others!

Elvis came to see me while I was scoping out a spot for some creeping rosemary. His sweetest girl Shadow came to join us; I was calling her Wednesday, but Shadow fits better, she’s always in the background. She has a beard and muffs but they’re difficult to photograph, and a beautiful green sheen in the sun
