Fugly Farm

The started veggies are doing really well. I found the bins I was using to farm mealworms so I’ll move the pots to one of those tomorrow, add the third light and resow some seeds for things that didn’t sprout.

This has been a busy day. I fell asleep at around 1830 last night with a terrible stomach and back ache, then was up at 0230 this morning sick to my stomach. Called off work and started feeling sort of better later so helped hubs work on the garage. We added quite a bit to our bulk trash pile and hubs hopes to get more done next weekend. Then we moved the golf cart off the patio and into the garage. By next weekend I hope to have the shed cleaned out and ready to organize. Tomorrow I’m working on getting all the gardening stuff in the garage organized and ready to move out of there and into the shed. It’s currently raining lightly but the ducks got some feeder fish so they’re in the pool hunting. We’re going to need to build them a step to get out of the pool I think. Got my order confirmation for the ducklings. Nice that I don’t have to create an account to get a tracking number with this hatchery. The boys and daughter are kind of excited to have some traditional looking ducks. We talked about names, can’t reuse the three we picked out for the ducklings that died. The newbies will be Luna, Pearl and Snow per a three way vote with the boys.
I'm glad you're feeling better! The projects never end...it's the same here!
I love the new names, hoping for strong healthy little quackers! 💞What hatchery did you order them from?

I recognize tomatoes there, what else are you sprouting?
There’s squash, luffah, Armenian cukes and a jalapeño also. The tomatoes are a Texas cherry something and San Marzano for canning sauce. I’m going to start some green beans, Thai chilies didn’t go so those, marjoram to plant under the lemon tree and whatever else looks interesting that I might be able to fit in the garden. Already in the garden are artichokes, a poblano, carrots, garlic, lettuce and broccoli. I tried a bush type pickling cucumber but it has probably been too cold so they didn’t sprout. Armenian cukes have a slight melon flavor, I like to chop them up and mix with various melons in a fruit salad or it’s good in place of watermelon in a melon salsa because it’s less sweet.

Thank you! The new ones are coming from Metzer in California.

I think I've looked there before! I'm glad that my next chicks are local, every hatchery I've looked at has a minimum of 3-5 of the same breed, doesn't work very well for adding to my mixed flock when I only have so much room.

Looks like some healthy plants. How long is your growing season?
I can usually grow all year except summer. Sometimes it gets warm pretty early in the year though so being able to get a jumpstart on things is helpful. Also, I can do the same in late summer for a fall garden before planting cold season things like the lettuce, brassicas, etc a little later. I have hoops for row covers but I wasn’t well prepared for gardening this year so it’s all a bit haphazard right now. I just couldn’t wait to get my hands in the dirt.
