Thanks for your opinion Dee, just what I need to know as I'm learning as I go...Yes that one hen has a big comb for the longest time thought maybe she was a rooster

then she started lay eggs. We have some eggs from both hens in the incubator can hardly wait... I just love these English birds!! Hope to get better pictures soon also.
Me too. I have six pecan trees. Dont know if i have any left from the season but I should have plenty in the fall. I get them cracked and shell out what I want. Give to the Children, and friends and sell the rest.

I love to cook as much as I LOVE to eat :( I have to keep that in check too :) All that food sounds soo good. :) I love pecans on anything. lol One of these days I am going to fry up some pork tenderloin strips or chicken fingers with finely chopped pecans in the bator :)

Ok back to chickens ... Sure enjoy being able to ask questions and learn. I feel better now.. lol

Please forgive if I have lot of typos..fell down last week on the ice..right wrist is still wrapped up..hurt my pride more than anything..
OMG Lynn! I thought I was the only one that spent more time on the ground than standing up? Glad you're okay!!!!!!!!! Don't even give the typos another thought! Just get to feeling better!

I'm struggling to get my Gold's to lay and be fertile...making me crazy. I've waited so long and got a few eggs, but after candling...no luck

I guess until they decided to lay, I can always just admire the adults.

BOY OH BOY!!!!! Can I ever relate to this problem....LOL I have been standing outside my GL's coop cheering them on the whole time! My Roo mounts and then nothing in the incubator.....GRRRRRR!!!!!! First it was the moult....then moved to a new coop...stress......then I had to put a saddle on 1 hen and the Roo freaked out and wouldn't touch her.....Took the saddle off and he's back to mounting....but NOTHING!!! The other day I got DESPERATE.....I cut the feathers from both the hens and the roosters vent areas. Have some eggs in the bator now....PRAY THAT THEY ARE FERTILE!!!!!! If I don't get anything now......I will be visiting my Vet to do test on my Roo to see if he is fertile. If he is then I'll "AI" him....if not...I'll contact the seller! GRRRRRR!!!!!! So, I DO KNOW THE FRUSTRATION! Everything else on my place is giving me beautiful babies......but I've been wanting GL for SOOOOOOO LONG! I finally get my breeders and this happens. Just not fair! GL are my most FAVORITE out of ALL THE ORPINGTONS! There is not a more striking bird around!

I'm new here so please bear with me...just thought I would like your opinion on our Gold Lace, so this is Gordon & the Golden Girls debut.

First.....welcome! We're so glad to have you! And even happier that you have Gold Laced Orpingtons! You have some gorgeous birds! Looks like you have Gold Laced Blue Hens and Gold Laced Black Rooster.....stunning!

Dee , I wonder if you could run that standard through bablefish or another translator to get a german-english translation..or would that even work?
Yum yum...nobody does it better than those southern ladies.

Ya'll are killing me with these sweets! I'm going to the kitchen right now....horrible insomnia tonight(4:00AM) ,,,,,,,,,and I'm finding me something sweet even if I have to cook! And I have pecans.....LOL

Well.....I guess I have to post some pics of my babies....hopefully I'll have some fertilized eggs soon

Didn't know about bablefish. I will try.

Jobele, I will try bablefish, if that doesn't work, I'll bother your husband with it. Deal. Oh, and thanks for posting pictures of your GL! Let us know when you've confirmed babies growing in your incubator.

Is it possible to make a Laced Lavender Orpington? I know nothing of genetics, so figured i would ask !

I'm not sure. Sorry. All my research has been dedicated to the Gold Laced Black. I wonder if the lavender is similar to blue genetically?

A English friend sent me this pic several years ago from a show he attended in Germany. I saved it for future reference and just remembered it. Thought I would share it with you GL breeders. It was pointed out to me the lacing all the way in the fluff.

Dont you love the way they used the yellow paper as a backdrop to enhance the picture.

I'm so glad you remembered those pictures. I love their type. I love the tail angle in the hen and the short back of the cock bird. So beautiful. Gives us something to aim towards. Thanks Julie!!

I think a problem with breeding these guys is that the lacing takes a very long time to appear in certain places and in other places it happens rather quickly. So one is tempted to cull too soon. DragonLady warned me not to choose my breeders too quickly. Boy, was I glad I waited. The biggest change was between 5 months and 6 months. Some had lacing from 4 wks on. But, some didn't and it took up to 6 months. The fluff lacing is the last to appear. Rock Star is totally laced in the underfluff. Much more so than the one in the picture above. Max is too. But Rock Star I was going to cull several months ago because of his floppy comb. Some of you remember that. Julie (Bama) was one of the first to warn me not to. Max, when he was young, I thought he'd never lace up, but I kept him because I liked his type and he was my gentle giant. Now, his lacing is bold (green sheen everywhere) and his underfluff is laced. Not like Rock Star's but much better than I thought. I have a fence going up today and everyone is penned up. But when they finish, I see if I can get good pictures of their underfluff.

I gave to a friend, Eugene, you might have seen when I posted a picture of him making the front cover of our paper. Funny little town. Anyways, Eugene now has the boldest lacing in his hackles. Not one of the ones I kept do. I didn't keep him though, because as Julie said, type comes first. Eugene's back was a bit too long for my liking and his neck was too long. No sense in wondering if I could have bred him to a pullet with nice type and have corrected the offsprings type....
