my eggs are developing fast ! too fast. the humidity is around 35-40 with water in 2 places. seems like the water is going every other day. I knew i would have a problem with only 4 eggs in there. I keep finding it dry and i hope it dont mess with them too bad. they went in on the 21st of Oct. in the morning so i am counting that as day one. my bantams seem to hatch on day 18 so i am thinking these will come sooner. I will be going into lock down in a couple days I have learned that a clean sock rinsed well of any soap works much better then a sponge to keep that humidity up. any other tips ?

35% humidity is plenty of humidity. All chickens should hatch on day 20 or 21. If your incubator is hatching them earlier than day 20, the thermostat is set too high. What kind of thermometer are you using? Chicks that hatch before day 20 are often time weak or suffer from failure to thrive.

I dont know the name brand enola, the bator came w/ the plastic one and i got this from lowes in the garden section. it has the humidity on it as well. I assumed the size of the egg was the reason. they are at 99.5 in a still air styrofoam . it was on with the plastic one.

I have done my share of assisted hatches. I will pick up another thermometer for next time. not much to pick from here though.

crap, now i am nervous. I want to bring a brooder in and get it ready seeing as how we have had snow already and there is a big frost out there. I will jinx the hatch. lol its a lot of work to get it in and ready. not counting the fact i will have to argue with my son over bringing it in. I dont care . some battles are worth it and some are not. this one is. so mommy rules here. hahaa If i can just keep my hands off. that is a problem for me.

Regarding assisted hatches - I don't help chicks hatch. Ever. I used to........... but every single chick I have helped has died. A few of them lived for a short period of time...... but every single one of them has died before they outgrew the brooder.

Of course I don't molly coddle any of my chickens. My safety kit has very few items in it; corid, mineral oil, betadine, no peck lotion, safeguard, eprinex, vinegar, scalpel, nylon thread, needle to sew, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, screw worm spray, probiotics and a plastic bib for after crop surgery. No antibiotics at all. And any chicks that are treated with corid are put in the butcher pen. I only treat individual chicks for coccidia after quarantining them from the rest of the chicks.

these 4 eggs are special to me. I have high hopes for them. I have great patience and will when it comes to the babies. I have lost my share but i have brought twice as many to adulthood. what is screw worm spray ? lol I do believe that the chicks that are having a hard time hatching is because of something i have done wrong. humidity for example. if it was too low they cant hatch. dont mean there is anything wrong with the chick. so i will try each and every one that has problems. I have heard that seramas come on day 18 from a couple of people but i personally have no idea what to expect. I will only help a chick if it has pipped . I have had no luck with the others. I also very much love doing that. it is fascinating to me. what you do with crop surgery , i could not. it would die for sure. not saying i wouldnt give it a go . I had one with an abscess under the eye and i did try to lance it but it was a fail. . i put tylan in the abscess to loosen it and it went down enough for it to see. if this had been an every day rooster i wouldnt have tried. i would of culled it first. but he was a very pretty gentle thing. Internal pip i should of said
