The dreaded S-N-O-W started falling this afternoon, and hasn't stopped. My kid made a micro snowman. Missing my chickens, but enjoying lazy days of shopping, sleeping, and no chores.

candled the eggs and i believe them to all be dead. the one that was to go on lockdown is only half the size it should be in the shell and no movement. the 4 that are on like day 7-8 looks like 2 have rings and 2 are cloudy. I do still see some tiny intact blood veins in them all .I dont know if this matters. if not for that i would of tossed them all. I will research this. if it is possible to have them in a dead embryo then i will toss them. I have 3 eggs in the closet,(storage) if these are dead in the bator then I am going to toss them too. I have never been so disgusted. my electric was out for an hr. fifteen.

i have looked at hundreds of pics but cant find what i am looking for. I did read that if it is dead that all the blood veins may not of broken down yet.

Bummer about the eggs. I don't know anything about candling except for the first check, dark=good and glowing=bad. Maybe you'll have better luck in the spring. Good news from the dr about your foot. Seems like an end is in sight. Do those exercises he gave you, no matter how stupid they seem. Really helped my hubs and my 80 yr old dad when he was recovering from an accident. My sister is coming over tomorrow to help me get ready for Thanksgiving Friday. We haven't had this many people over for a while, so need to pull out the fancy dishes and polish grandma's old silverware, because there's not enough of my everyday stuff to go around. Fruit salad sounds good. Have to root through the pantry to see if we've got anything fruity.

Happy to hear the good news from the doctor about your foot.

I had my hand surgery in mid March and was just about to accept that I would never be able to do the things I used to do BUT just in the past week things have started to turn around. I'm just thrilled. You're just not having good luck with eggs this winter. Maybe it's a sign that you should just wait til spring. Especially if the weather is already so bad you've lost power. Yummy, that fruit salad sounds like what my Mother used to make and called ambrosia. I always loved it but haven't had it since she passed. It's funny how many special dishes our Mother's made that we no longer do. Yesterday would have been my Dad's birthday so I guess I was feeling nostalgic and decided to bake his favorite cake - his Mother's (recipe) for pound cake. It's the one that is actually a "pound" of everything. Simple, but so sinfully rich. Then I decided I needed to make one of Mother's favorites for Thanksgiving - waldorf salad. Another thing I haven't had since she passed.

sounds like every one has their work cut out for them today. I am guessing an hr. on the birds so that will be about 4hrs, fifteen min. for it all to be done. thats an hr on cooking, 15 min. to eat it and a 3 hr nap . sound about right ?

I just put my cornish rocks in the oven (3) and i was sure i was over the fact of eating them but after seeing the shape they are in , well, I dont think i am going to be able to. when you know what your looking at and can tell the way they were treated (bad) , I much rather of raised my own for dinner. It was an off brand . 2.88 $ per bird. I have pulled my shoulder out or a muscle, not sure which one but i am getting very mad at myself. Today is the day I was to attempt to put up my moms beautiful village for Christmas. I cant even pull a box down from the closet. she always did it this day and i wanted to honor her. sorry all, dont want to be depressing on this day. I am trying really hard not to be. the people that reads my posts know me better then my family does because this is where my heart goes.

and i am only going to say it once . I love you guys, each and every one that supports me, listens to me rant, helps me out, feeds me, and makes me laugh. Enough said, dont want to hear anymore about it. Thinking about trying to incubate some of my own eggs. no one has this bad of luck. doing a once over on my pr of seramas and the rooster has small spurs, young for sure. the hen needs her nails trimmed. they are starting to go a bit side ways. breeder told me she was just starting to lay. i would have to add to that. she is starting to lay after a break maybe. I am not liking all this death but again it keeps my mind busy and pretty sure i need that.

The 3 hour nap is the part I'll look forward to the most!

Starting Friday night, we are expecting rain for the next 3 days. My chickens won't know what to do! Most of them haven't had to deal with that much at once. I anticipate much crankiness on their part. I will start gathering the treats now!

Granny, your strong and capable son should be able to help you with the box for the Christmas village. If he's anything like my boy, flattery and feeling needed are good motivators. The hardest thing when my guy was younger was figuring out when he truly couldn't do something from when he just didn't want to or was afraid to try. I know when someone has such a narrow comfort zone, simple things can be hard, but I always made him try. Well okay, I practically nagged the poor child to death! Got to give them a little push or they'll never know their limits. Hope your shoulder feels better.

How's your daughter doing? Hope she is recovering and not stressing over making dinner. I was going to ask you to send your fly over for dusting, but after looking around, realized my spiders would probably eat it.
