Enola, Glad to hear your husband is being discharged today. I can understand you frustration with the hospital staff. I'm a nurse and hate to hear about other nurses ignoring patient's needs. Seems like now, the only thing that matters is the paperwork and documentation.... used to not be like that. I've often said if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't go into nursing. I like to take care of my patients like they deserve to be, but now there are too many q's and p's that have be crossed. There is never an excuse for a patient to be ignored and crappy attitudes from the staff.
We got to the bottom of the problem: the dr is telling us one course of action and when writing his orders for the nurses, the directions change! I guess he didn't think anybody would double check on what was going on.

My sister worked very hard for that title as well and ended up leaving . she now works from home approving PA for people. LOL Not to many if any get turned down. its always the same. all paper work and no time for care.

You're always your best advocate. Always ask questions....what medicine and what is it for....what is the test for and why....treatment options...etc? I am always amazed at the people who do not ask any questions and assume that everything is being done in their best interest.

This includes animals taken to the vet. I could not tell you how many times I have talked to animal owners that spent a whole pocket full of money for an illness Fido has. SO? What medication did the vet prescribe? I don't know, it is pink and smells funny! *insert beaming smile*

Agreed...My daughter's neighbor took a puppy to the vet and was prescribed Ivermectin for mites. The vet sent home a prefilled syringe to give to the puppy. The vet tech who prepared the syringe, drew up the wrong amount. Needless to say, the puppy became very sick and the neighbor took the puppy to my daughter and asked her if she knew what might be wrong. She told them to take the puppy back to the vet. The vet soon discovered that the puppy had been given the wrong dose. After a few days of intense care, the puppy pulled through. The neighbor had given the Ivermectin, not even knowing what it was or what the puppy was being treated for. They had told my daughter that they had given the puppy some medicine, but didn't know what it was. I'm a stickler for checking the correct dose of any medication that I give my pets and possible side effects.

sounds like a lot of you have interesting jobs that are definitely not boring. Happy housewife included. I on the other hand am bored to death. I would love , just for a day to walk in others shoes. maybe i would appreciate what i have more. LOL I am surrounded right now by children and energy but I have nothing to give them. I am too old to enjoy the energy they produce. it is just loud and whining. cartoons all day. more activity then i can handle. speaking of cartoons, What do you call a fish with no eye ? a fshhh ok, guess you had to be there.

Excellent advice! I think some people put the doctor on a pedestal and worry about offending by asking questions. I would never want to be in the hospital without having a family member there watching out for me.

You do that Granny girl, enjoy your drawing again. I can't even imagine what your going thru with 6 kids running about. My nervous system would be on overload. I am so noise sensitive since my brain surgery. You would probably find me hanged in the barn, lol.

I always go with DW so I can ask questions about her treatments. You know sometimes Doctors don't address the concerns of the spouse. DW would let them send her to the moon if they had half a mind to. She just gets so nervous and anxious she forgets to ask and I understand that. I ask her questions too, to be sure she knows.
