Back in December they closed the schools here due to rain! It wasn't even that bad, but I guess the school officials didn't want the blame for stupid people doing dumb things, like trying to drive through high water.

That, unfortunately, is another result of the times we live in. Schools really are in a no-win situation with any closure - if they close, they get slammed for being overly cautious - if they don't, they get slammed for not be careful enough....especially if something happens. I have seen this play out over and over with each and every "weather event" we've had locally - the growing use of social media has made it 10 times worse as it gives a platform for the complainers on both sides.
Don't even get me started on the people driving through flooded areas - I just *love* the news broadcasts during flooding events where you see the cars in the background driving around the barriers and into the water and, surprise, getting stuck

I agree, seems as if some will do anything for their 5 min, no matter the results. If i thought it was too bad out , I wouldnt send them had nothing to do with someone elses decision.

thats exactly what i said, he is just as pretty as mom.

silly willy boy's aren't pretty (now mom can be pretty) handsome and cute yes but never pretty LOL pretty boys end up being metro-sexual like Ryan or Brian or something like that Seacrest that show host/commentator.

Yep and that has actually been written into policies for our district as of last year (because of the complainers) - the inclement weather plan actually has wording for "parental discretion need be exercised - if parent/guardian feels it is unsafe for the child to travel to/from school that day they need only contact the school and notify as to their decision" - on top of there being alternate routes that are able to reach most of the kids without taking the worst of the county roads (our road, of course, is one of the worst - go figure), etc....and, of course, the option to use "elearning" for days when travel to the school is not safe. They worked really hard at the plan last year and I have not had an issue with it at all. DH and I did opt out of sending DS last Friday - they hadn't had school all week and the wind chills were going to be lower than Thursday (when they cancelled) so we were not comfortable with him standing out waiting for the bus (length of driveway, irregular arrival time and lack of ability to see bus before it is right there means you have to go out ahead and wait at the road to be sure you are there when it comes by). I called in, reported it and all was good....plus they were able to re-route the bus since it no longer needed to come our way to get DS and avoided our nasty road all together.

Aw, you guys are making me blush! You only say he looks like me because you haven't seen his dad. Both my kids are Mr. Camping Jr.

The boy is over his stomach bug, but running fever today. So no trip to Texas for me. I'm ok with it. I need some home time to crochet and maybe finally take the Xmas decorations down.

Husband came home with chicken supplies and small appliances yesterday! :love Be still my heart. :lau Ge knows exactly how to show his appreciation for me handling the sickies solo. Poor guy, he can't sick kids. And I surely can't handle a sick husband. He's the worst of them all.

Well, so much for the State of Emergency in SC....... There is no snow here this morning. No school either, since school was canceled yesterday by 3 pm.

Quote: We had the worst of both situations. Big rain and flooding expected, but school officials dithered and didn't make a decision until 7:15am, the same morning the schools were to be closed. Students had already been dropped off or were on their way on busses, parents gone off to work. It was not a good situation, with students "stranded," and many many complaints. So as not to make the same mistake, decision to close the following day (unnecessary) was made by 6pm. Everybody happy now? Not me. Most schools could have been open both days with little trouble. The few near the river should have been closed individually. It was the week before finals.

The rescue workers are the ones I have sympathy for. When those people drive around the barriers...

(But then please don't leave the barriers up a week after they should be removed!

) We are turning into a society of people who have forgotten how to think for themselves. Ridiculous amount of cars being hit by trains this year (I think 6 so far in Calif). Don't stop on the tracks warnings ignored, much damage and train passengers injured and killed. Personally, I think there are too many signs and warnings. It's kind of numbing. When the kids get a new toy, every little bag has a suffocation warning on it. We have reached warning saturation point and people just ignore them all.
I'm warning you all
old.gif
there will be dire consequences from all these excessive warnings!

That's right, ignore me.

This concludes our rant. Now back to our regular program.

By all means, keep hubby away from sick child. You'd have 10 times more to do!

Glad he's not tossing his cookies any more. Hope fever's gone tomorrow!
