OK ! now im gonna make you guys feel bad when i tell you why they terrify me. I dont think there is another living creature i am afraid of but i have never been in a cave. had a bat tangle up in my hair once.

I did know mother hated bats. She found one in the garage one time in a trash bag she scream beat the bag with a shovel. Looked in bag Bat still fine screamed some more and kept beating the bag with the shovel. She must have screamed and swung the shovel for a good 15 minutes before she called it quits.

Since this little owl has been eating chicken gizzards, I would stay with that and introduce new foods very slowly.

Not to add more grossness, but do you know how an owl's digestive system works? Owl eats mouse whole, flesh and organs are digested, hair/bones/teeth are compacted into a pellet and barfed up. This little one hasn't had to regurgitate anything for a while, so just take it slow.

Well, I had forgotten completely about toes. What's that disease I can never remember.... CRS!

Also forgot about the comb. Silkies have a pea comb ( looks sort of bumpy). I bet Red has a Cochin. If the comb is a regular, classic style single comb, then the new hen is probably a Cochin. Super sweet, excellent broody, maybe not the smartest

. Pea combs are dominant, so that would carry through from a Silkie cross. Is she round shaped, Red? Sort of like a feathered ball? Short little rounded off tail?

One thing I have found is that most people who are not on BYC are less knowledgeable about poultry in general. If someone gave them some birds and called them Silkies, that person doesn't know any different and goes on calling them that, so it happens.

You can tell a hard core breeder because they care mostly about the shape of the bird. If it has the wrong shape, it is not considered an example of the breed. The color is secondary. Most of the mass produced hatchery birds are nothing like their breed is supposed to be. They are still good chickens, especially if you want eggs, but they would be immediately disqualified from any show. The Standard of Perfection is the book that describes how the breeds should ideally look. Some breeds, like Cochins, have been around for over 100 years! They were sort of bred to be the chicken equivalent of a lap dog.

your cochin is beautiful.. sorry about the fox..they seem to get the best ones..reds may be a cochin..i was going to send you a pic of me drinking my chocolate milk..but i can't.i loved my cochins they were the best..buts roos .. so i rehomed them..

I find watching the chickens and ducks very relaxing. And hysterical sometimes. Lol

newfie..thats how i relax..every evening i sit and watch them..easter eggers are so funny.it's good to laugh even at chickens...
