So Red, didn't mean to go & do it too you lol. I was so bad the first time I incubated eggs. I was candling them almost every day after day 7. The amazing part was actually having 3 hatch out of the 7 I had set. It is a blast to watch them hatch for the first time, after the first it just stressed me out too much. I much prefer for momma hen to do it, she has lots better hatch rates & all I have to do is start checking for a egg shell on day 20. Easy peazy right?

I'm really trying not to go nuts lol. I did just walk by and look at her and kelp walking. Boy that's hard to do. I was wondering, when a mamma chick hatches them does she help with the egg shell or does she just let the chick do its thing?

I am at the library now. I came here to look at some houses Megan is looking at on Craig's List. But, I can't see Craigs List at the library. But, I can't see Craigs List at the library.  So I thought I would drop in and say hello and let you guys know where I have been.  Try to be good, and if that doesn't work, just be good at what you are doing........

You know Red, I don't have any idea if she does or not. Would love a coop cam to watch a broody. I know she will eat egg shells because there was only one small cap part of the egg shell left after my Silkie hatched her 2 eggs this summer.

I have in the neighbor hood of about 25 birds.

black aust, pullets and roos
barred rocks pullets and roo
buff hens
RIR hens and rooster.

That's a nice selection

going to get a few RIR roos,

to put over the black aust. to make black sex links.

put the RIR roo over the barred rock hens too.

then getting the black aust roo and hens to keep a few pure birds.

got the buffs to be broody

to put over the black aust.  to make black sex links.

put the RIR roo over the barred rock hens too.

then getting the black aust roo and hens to keep a few pure birds.

well this will be our first attempt.

we've always just raised egg birds before.

I should have looked into getting a few RIR white hens, to go with the roos, for cinnamon queens.
