Guess what breed of horse I am!!

The Freisians I've seen have been big horses. There is a near by farm that raises them and they are large. Granted, I don't know alot about the breed and maybe this farm is breeding for size. You don't see alot of freisians in our area. We mostly ride stock horses here. Do you not think she may end up bigger then your thinking?

How old is she? She may just be one of those late maturing.

I have a Black Quarter Horse colt that I bought at 1.5 years old. I was excited because his sire was a beautiful Black appendix built horse(curves, curves, curves, and muscle*drool*) and his dam was an old style foundation built(talk about a stocky, square built tank*drool*) but when they dropped him and his brother off, they were both emaciated. (I could have shot the seller.. especially after she said "I guess the big stud has been running them off their feed" YA THINK!?!?! 3 stallions in one pasture? where's your common horse sense?? anyway.. sorry about the little venting) *sigh* Anyway.. He is three now and I was beginning to get very dissapointed about him because he did not grow almost the entire period I had him. He was back up to weight in a couple months and I kept waited for him to grow. Nothing for a whole year and a half. This is his third year and he has shot up! He is not the biggest beefiest thing in the pasture and still the pushover letting the geldings steal his food. LOL People were teasing me because he was a knee-knocker with his hind legs, I kept saying wait until he fills out. Sure enough he hit a growth spurt in his third year, oh, he is handsome and his knees don't "knock" any more in the back. (He was cow-hocked in the back-I believe that's the correct term anyway) People cannot believe it is the same horse. I'll take some pictures today and post them as before and after.

If you keep her, she may very well surprise you. I would also do research on how fast the Fresians mature, for some reason they sound as though they would mature slowly. Just an assumption anyway.

She is 4 years old. I do believe that she will do some more growing. I believe she is around 14.2 now (like I said, I haven't measured with anything real accurate lately) so I fully expect that she'll plateau at that 14.3-15.1 hand "hony" range.

I don't know much about them, but I believe that Friesans are slow-maturing, like some warmbloods (my Trak cross mare grew at least an inch or 2 between 5 and 7!! She's a beast now!). So yes, I think she will grow some more, but I don't think it will be much. The stallion was maybe around 15 hands; the dam, about 15.2. Apparantly there is a wide range of size when it comes to Friesans--some are quite large (17+ hands) and some are barely over 14.2.

I'm on the fence about keeping her. She needs to get broke before I can sell her, if that's what I do. I do have too many horses...I have my TB/Trak mare, she's here to stay. Then there's my 20-year old Arab girl that I've had since I was 12, she's never going anywhere!! Then I have a 10-year old, wild and crazy and never broke pony, I'm afraid she's here to stay too, 'cause who else would have her? She's a nut!

And then this girl. If I get her started under saddle this year she would be the one I'd have to let go, if I sold any. Who knows, if gas prices get any crazier I just might teach her drive. I can justify keeping her if she pulls her own weight around here....literally!!

Kim, don't apologize about the venting--that sounds horrible! Some people just have no sense at all, much less horse sense....it would be fun to see your before and after pics--he sounds gorgeous!

Oh I know what you mean. Process of elimination is tough! Between last year and this year we have gone from 10 horses to 3. Ugh, I never want to do it again. I had my horse, Adam's family bought a child-safe rescue, and then Adam got a gelding, so there's three already. Then two horses came with our trailer. That's 5. LOL Adam and I bought BlackJack and Barbeque(the two emaciated colt half-brothers) and then I rescued 2 horses abandoned at a puppy mill. LOL It was way too many for us, especially since we got hit with that drought and everyone ran out of feed and hay.

Barbeque colicked and died even before the vet could show up. We sold Skye, a mare who came with the trailer, for $400(That person got a steal, I loved that horse, even though she was a headache. Too smart for her own **** good. LOL) I gave away the Spotted Saddle Stallion rescued from abandonment at the puppy mill. I sold the young warmblood gelding that was also at the puppy mill for $200(never recieved the last $20). My 20+ appaloosa mare(my childhood companion) developed Cushion's disease and I couldn't afford the treatment, so we had her euthanized(I wish we hadn't, but we had the other horses to feed and she was already older). And then finally we sold the child-safe mare and the 17+ hand gelding(who came with the trailer) to a family member. *sigh* It's been a hellish year for me. I haven't felt the urge to go ride or even mess with the horses in months. I guess a combination of burnout and depression.

Black Jack is the only one I kept. He still needs to be gelded and trained(yippee...).

LOL. Now, who's the one apologizing for venting. LOL

She isn't buckskin. She is a Bay and why do you say buckskins won't get over 15 hands. My neighbors have a buckskin that is almost 17 hands.

I used to have 2 and they had a Buckskin mother and fathers they never got bigger than 15 hands.

I'm sure your's was just a special case. As the previous poster mentioned it's a color. I think the size of the horse has much more to do with breed then color. Of course, there are some out there who argue that buckskin actually is a breed, hence the International Buckskin Horse Association, but I'm not buying into it. It is true that buckskin was probably introduced to the AQHA through spanish horses, but if those horses only came buckskin I would go with it, but they were much like mustangs. The nicest horse I've ever seen, truly world class, is a buckskin quarter horse. He carries the champagne gene and shines like glitter in the sun. I'll have to post a pic of him if I ever get a digi camera. He is a little over 15 hds as well.
