HALLOWEEN HATCH!!! Anyone

nef, the left behind one could be

Doh!
Ooops!
Dizzy (because he kept turning)

so, what's going on with everyone else.... my chicks aparently learned to read because they gotthe eviction notice i posted in the bator... lol...

actually it's nice.. i have someone coming over tomorrow who's gonna hatch some of my eggs in his bator for practice and he can see the babies and get an idea of what some of them will look like....

I like those name choices and your little ones are adorable.

I have bators with all tiny windows and right now, Murphy is in there looking a bit like something from a mad scientist's lab, otherwise I'd get pictures.

I chipped off his shell from his beak to the air cell with the idea that when the blood vessels in the membrane stop, I can open up enough so that he can free himself when he's ready. I'm being realistic about what I might find when he does come out, but I still want to try. I know he incubated the right way around. The air cell was at the end with the writing and I candle all eggs before putting them in the turners in any case. He just didn't turn for some reason. Maybe he's too big?

I got a pip!!! One of the two undamaged in the fall. *breathe... breathe*

Congratulations! I knew it would be alright last night.

You were too close to lose them to cracked shells.

My little Murphy is mostly free now. I left him in the carton on the remaining shell and membrane so he can rest and finish doing what he needs to do. I know why he got stuck. It's kind of a shock he was able to pip at all. I could be wrong, but he looks almost 2x the size of the other Orpington X chicks.

So far the only names occuring to me are Faith, Hope, or, my mom suggested, Crackhead. LOL! (My mom's a little cracked herself.)

I love Murphy as a name... can't wait to see pics of the little bruiser.

Just looked in the 'bator. Still just one pip, but one of the moderately damaged ones is def. talking. Nothing from the very damaged group, but they are all only on day 18.

I have 5 out .... 4 Jersey Giants (1 black 3 Blue), and 1 (2nd generation) Olive Egger. Here are pictures. i just can not get a good picture. They are all so dark.
The Olive Egger... appears to be shades of brown:

for your little ones.

My guy came and got me and told me that I needed to help some chicks. There weren't any more pips, so it seemed safe to do that.

One bantam had hatched completely and was trying to crawl head first back into his egg. (I know how that is. I don't like getting up in the morning either.) Two zipped chicks were stuck. I freed their heads and wings which seems to help sometimes and I laid the bantam on the floor of the bator because I thought it would help him.

Murphy is laying quietly where I left him, but reacts normally when you touch him. I think he's resting. It is late and he's had a rough day. He didn't have to finish hatching by himself, but it had to be really hard to pip without getting air first.

Next year, when he's a 15 lb rooster with the a crow that would put the average opera star to shame, you need to remind me of this moment.

Kathy - Awww.... what lovely babies! I missed it somehow- how many more eggs are in your 'bator?

Neferset - glad to hear the others are working on it and Murphy is doing okay.

Edit: Oh, oh! I just went to peek after I hit submit, and I have two more pips! A barely there pip on the other undamaged egg, and a good-sized pip on the slightly damaged one that was also due today. And... AND... as I was looking, a little flash of beak appeared at the pip in the damaged one.
