Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

Pics
These are two of the male chicks that showed it, at different ages, it was hard to get it to photograph really well, the second one especially makes it look like maybe side sprigs too, but having held the birds, it was definitely more than sprigs):

This is a photo I found online, and it shows what these guys would have looked like mature, as far as the comb goes:

Anyway, this is a big derail of the thread ;) If you want to talk about it more, you can PM me if you'd like. It's not something that's very common, and especially not in single comb breeds. I had a really hard time tracking down just what exactly was happening. It typically shows up in rose combs.

I remember seeing your post about this. I agree with the following:

Very interesting! Thanks!

And I don’t think it’s necessarily a derailment, we’re all here to learn and some people would likely find this interesting or useful. Besides, we gotta kill time till the chicks hatch somehow. :lau

:highfive:

FOR YOUR DONATIONS
We need prize donations for our contests! It is your generosity that allows us to run these.
No item is too small. We can always use smaller items for second or third place.
Hatching egg donations, fowl items that are new or used in good shape, BYC PFMs, Amazon gift certificates, BYC gift certificates, etc. are all great items to donate. What some of us do is purchase an item from Amazon and send it directly to the winner: just make sure they have plenty of the item in stock beforehand.

CONTEST LIST:
There are no contests up yet. Check back soon!
Oooh Yes! Just the excuse I needed to start a new batch. I don't imagine I'll have a very good hatch rate, as the girls are all slowing way down with their molt and the first cold snap, so some of my eggs will be older. I wasn't really planning to hatch, either, so I haven't been turning them like I should, but what the hay ... we're gonna go for it! I'll set up the 'bator tonight & set my banties on the 10th .. and maybe a few from the Kindergarten Dropouts, as well. A Silkie/Jersey Giant or a Silkie/NH Red mix oughta be kind interesting, doncha think?
Wait'll my kids get wind of this. They thought banning me from TSC's Fall Chick Days would put me off 'til Spring ... BWA-HAhahahahahaha!
