Hard boiled eggs

I read that you put them in the cold water if you are peeling them right away. Is this true? Or not necessarily?
I want to peel one a day for 12 days.
Yes, if you want to peel them right away, you would cool to be able to handle without the discomfort of hot to the fingertips.
The cooking time can vary by individuals doing it to their preference. Here is an OLE SKOOL timer.

When I used for 3 minutes, eggs came out SOFT BOILED. If I turned over for additional 3 minutes, they came out HARD BOILED.
I use a flame gas stove, so maybe using electric, and different amount of heat may vary your cooking time.:idunno
Experiment, and fine-tune your time and cooking temps.
I also encountered slightly green yolks when I cooked the eggs too long.
Here is a copy/paste from a website.
What causes hard boiled eggs to turn green?
The discoloration that sometimes forms around the yolk of
hard-boiled eggs is the result of a similar reaction – this time between sulfur in the whites and iron in the yolks. It too, is harmless. It occurs when eggs have been cooked for too long or at too high a temperature.

I totally agree with KMom08. I love my egg cooker! Mine holds 7 eggs and I use it everyday. No pots of water to deal with. Poke em, put em in and they cook in no time. You can let them cool or eat them warm, so yummy! I use a lot of hard boiled eggs and this is the best tool! You can also make soft boiled eggs and poached eggs as well.

Do they make one to do a dozen or maybe eighteen at a time?
Will be looking for one of these.

Instant pot! I put 1 cup of water in the bottom of the pot, steam basket, up to 18 eggs (I have an 8 quart pot), and then put it on the steam setting for 6 min. Then when it's done, quick release and do an ice bath immediately. After they soak in the ice bath for about 10 min, they are cool enough to peel. I store them peeled in my fridge all week!

If you don't have an instant pot, steam on the stove for 20 min then ice bath.

I think the ice bath is the key!

I have had great luck steaming eggs. I take a big pot, put about an inch of water in it, put in metal collander or steamer and get water boiling. Once boiling I put eggs in and cover. Cook about 15 minutes and then put under cool water. Delish!!!!

If you want them to be easy to peel, especially if they are fresh, steam them. They will peel like a dream. Steam for around 12-15min depending on how hot your stove is and how big the eggs are. Rinse them in cold water then pop them in the fridge. They should peel easily. The cold water helps the eggs shrink back rapidly away from the shell so they stick even less.

Incidentally, it's 5-6 minutes for a soft boiled egg. I also think soft boiled is the ultimate egg. But they don't keep for 12 days.

Thanks for this. :) I've always boiled eggs and never thought of steaming them; I'm keen to try it out, especially if it results in easier to peel eggs!

Do you punch a hole in them or leave them intact?

In tact, just in a steamer basket in a pot on the stove on medium heat. I'm about to go do some soft boiled for myself for some ramen lunch today.
