Hatching Coturnix Quail with Broody Chicken

That sounds very nice. My quail would never do that. They are very nervous and panic whenever they see humans.

Have you interacted with them a lot. When they’re just hatched I hold them every day until they are big enough to get out of the brooder.

I love how this tree branch hangs down in front of the coop. Nice shade too. The run is actually in part of the woods that’s fenced in. Best idea ever from DH!

We have 5 coops (one is technically an aviary). I love that we can move chickens orquail around to whatever coop suits them best at the time.

I gave her 5 or 6 more quail eggs. So she’s sitting on 2 chicken and 11ish quail eggs

It was a coop that no one was using and they brought it over and asked us if we wanted it. It was a complete blessing and shock. This family has really been like a second family to me.

It’s a prefab, but it’s great. It’s perfect for a broody and some quail chicks.

That's really nice of them. I got a prefab coop for cheap-ish on a FB rummage sale, but not free and needed a lot of tlc. I do like those little coops a lot for quarantining and for quail, like you said.

I tried to hold them often when they were in the brooder, but they always struggled. Now I don't hold them because they could easily get loose and escape from the yard (this happened once and almost ended badly). They are surprisingly strong.

I have an aviary. I can walk in it and sit with them. I shut the door so none can escape. I do believe it depends on the breeding stock too for their temperament.
My quail chicks that come from the aviary breeding stock are so mellow. That’s how their parents are.

Most perch right on my finger as chicks. My friend says it’s because I’m Dr. Doolittle
