Hatching day 25 ( Second time lucky)

If u do the introduction carefully and monitored, at that age u should be ok. This part I have done before and been successful. As much as it hurts you, you did good. You have a strong healthy baby!!! Have you named it yet?

Well im going to get one Aylesbury duckling which is due to hatch on Friday. (Winnie will be a week old then so she may be a little bigger.)
Do you think they will be ok? I have a mirror , stuffed toy and a heated bean bag. She does sleep in there if shes really tired otherwise she wants to be with me.. Bless her!

p.s Winnie is a Cayuga and im getting an Aylesbury x

Thanks Caesar. Just hope I didn't kill the others. Especially when I can see one was fully developed :'(. Really upsetting.
Winnie :)) If it turns out to be a male, Winston.

Should be ok. Just make sure Winnie doesn't bully the baby! Keep an eye on them. And mirrors to get used to the sight of another duck and I'd play peeping tracks (YouTube?) from other ducklings until then might help.

From what I just read (since I don't know anything about Aylesburys) they grow fairly quickly, so one week shouldn't be too bad a difference. (Although ducks grow soooooo fast!!) If it were me, I would wait a couple more days after it hatches, to give it time to strengthen up. But I know that you are anxious! Hopefully Winnie will take the new one under her wing and help it, rather than be mean to it. With just two, they should bond easily, since no other siblings will be there to shut Winnie out. But also remember, having only 2 ducks has its challenges too.

So about the other eggs.... are they still in the incubator? Have you tried the float/wiggle test? I know its been a while since Winnie hatched, but as I said, I'm always optimistic.

THey really do... Winnie has double in size in two days!! It's crazy. I am hoping so.. I do have 6 grown up ducks outside and if I get another... I will have 8! So ideally, I would love ot just raise Winnie and integrate her to the flock but im not sure how that will go if she just socialises with humans?

They are still in the incubator. Shall I do a float test? What do I look out for ? Just place in warm water and see if the egg moves??

Ok so I have tried one egg.. the other two I didn't try because they weren't fully developed when I candled them. I tried the one that was fully developed. It just floated but didn't move! :'(

Devastated! Poor angel. I was tapping at egg and there was just nothing at all.

Oh I'm sorry... that's not a good sign. I assume you gave it several seconds? Like even a minute?
So.... are you planning to do eggtopsies if you decide they are definitely not going to hatch? I ask, because you could take that one and make a small hole in the air cell and check for movement. Widen the hole just big enough for your little finger, and feel inside for movement. Or you can just leave them in the incubator until you feel comfortable that they aren't going to hatch and just discard them.

I'm sorry, I know its rough.
