Wow, that is a cool calculator. It shows possible combinations depending on the dominant genes of the roo/hen. If the lineage of the chickens are well known and documented, one would be able to expect what the offsprings would look like. Thanks so much for introducing me to this tool.

Okay, what makes a fresh shipped egg start weeping/leaking? I've had this twice now. Eggs look great when unpacked, but after a few hours at room temp, one is leaking. The eggs I got today looked great, but my favorite one was leaking after about eight hours.

. Anything I can do to prevent it? When the boxes arrive, I unpack and set the eggs wide end up in egg cartons, leaving them open. Depending on condition, 12-24 hours later they go in the incubator. Again, depending on condition, they may be no turning for a day or so, but of course a leaky egg doesn't get so far.

Today's lost egg was lovely. Big dusky egg with a few speckles.

Could you put some of that tissue glue on it?. Band aid sells it as a liquid band aid.

Its snowing! We haven't seen snow for about 2 years. Too bad it doesn't look like its going to stick, wish the kids could get a chance to see it.

Oh, about the person who posted about the lab eating your sons guinea. Get that dog a shock collar. I brought home a pit bull last year and he promptly killed 6 of my hens. My mom got me a shock collar for him and I shocked the crap out of him every time he even looked at a chicken.
Now I have seen him laying in the middle of a flock of chickens and he actually allows them to step over him, or he will actually allow them to push him around. Its an amazing transformation and I didn't even have to tie a dead chicken around his neck. Aaah the benefits of technology.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have a muscovy sitting on 10 eggs, they all look to be growing well. I don't really feel comfortable shipping, but if anybody is going to be in the area, I am offering some for swap or for a nominal price. I live in Eastern NC.

G'morning all!

So I noticed I was missing a hen this morning and started freaking. You all know what you think we you see a hen missing: what got her or is she sick? It was one of my Tolbunts. I went looking in the coop for her since there is no place to hide outside. Found her...........in the nest box.

I haven't gotten an egg from this pen in months. When I saw her outside a few minutes later I went to investigate. Found an egg but it was cold. It had to have been laid yesterday. I stopped checking for eggs like a month ago. Guess I need to start looking again.

Since technically SBELs are Super Blue Egg Layers, I would think any great white egg layer could be crossed with an ams to make a prolific blue layer. I ordered an assortment of rare leghorn pullets and hope to cross the best layers with my EE roo, to make super EEs.

You must share pictures, we have our few SBEL in with our EE flock now.

Congrats!! Wish one of our scovy girls would go broody again i would shove all the scovy eggs under here that are in the incubator
