Hatching problem - please help!

I sure wouldn't be much help I already told you wrong about the coconut oil :(
I hope it wasn't my earlier post that made you feel this way. 🙁

I want to clarify: I don't usually use coconut oil on the outer membrane because I don't usually find it effective to make the outer (super tough) membrane transparent (like it does the inner membrane), but if it was the inner membrane that was visible and it was turning brown, then coconut oil could be helpful.

Who says you are wrong? Coconut oil would have one advantage, as I see it in that it would be the faster way to apply some type of ointment to the membrane if you're in a hurry. I've never needed to use anything so I'm just putting myself in Dinosaur's position as to what would I do.

I should research dry hatching as for the life of me, I do not understand why that's a good thing. I just do it the old-fashioned way, 50% average until lockdown, then up to 70%. I suppose an old dog could be taught a new trick though. ☺️

Apparently the dry method is a disaster. Most of my goslings had internally pipped 2 days ago, and still have no external pip today. I have not candled them because Im not handling any of this very well and I don’t think I can deal with another egg like the one I’m currently struggling with. 12 eggs were alive and well and now dying when they should be hatching. It’s absolutely horrible. I spent about $400 in eggs for this disaster. The worst part is that the money is nothing compared to the heartbreak.

I have been using coconut oil and the membrane just keeps drying out. I didn’t know about the Vaseline. I have opened the incubator door so many times to tend to this egg and there is a pipped egg in with her. 😢

I’m so sorry!

I pulled the baby out last night. I checked her at 3am and thought she was near dead, which was good because I was quick about it and didn’t leave myself time to panic. Her entire body had the membrane securely around her. The yolk and veins were absorbed. I didn’t even realize about the umbilical cord… there is a bump, about the size of a small marble, with a small spot of blood in the center as a result of me having no idea to be gentle in that area.

I don’t believe we are out of the dark because she looks wet and half dead still. She wriggles and kicks like she is trying to get in any position other than her side. Is this how baby goslings look? It’s not cute enough to even consider a picture. Her eyeball looks weird too. What to hours old goslings look like?

How's the gosling now? hatching is hard work so it will take time to recover plus when assisted it takes even longer.
post a picture.
She seems to be doing better! She got onto her belly and is flopping all over the place disturbing the egg in with her that is unzipping. I will attach some pics of her, but it seems unkind to put such ugly pics of her on the Internet, lol! Her one eye is not open and looks swollen.

And as I write this, the egg she was disturbing just hatched!. They are much more lively if they have not been an assist! It makes me think we really are not out of danger yet at all with the assist baby.

It may just need more time. Maybe the one that just hatched will give the assisted one a reason to get up and get moving. Just watch the lively one don't trample all over that one. How's its navel area looking? I have seen members rec putting some tripel or neo on it with clean hands.
