Hi! One of my friends chickens was broody so I purchased 6 eggs to place under her, when hatching time came only one hatched :( I then purchased an assortment of baby chicks which she accepted for a few days then rejected 2, I ended up taking these home and raising them in my house. They have now moved outside and I am curious as to whether they are male or female, I have never raised chicks before so I’m a bit clueless although I have tried to research a lot. I was told one is a silkie bantam (white) and the other a Belgium duuccle. We are not allowed to keep roosters in the suburbs here and I don’t like the idea of the collars so would have to go about finding any male a perfect home. Also, do you think the bantam looks quite scraggly for a bantam at that age? I got them about 5 weeks ago but I think they were already a week or two old. Thank you for reading if you got this far! Ash. :)

It seems to me that they are both cockerels. Pretty sure about your d'Uccle. Can you take a side photo of your silkie? cause in the first two photos he/she's not in a natural position

images of him/her on its side? This is my first post I think I may have done it wrong haha. I’ll try attach these side ones again. These might not be very clear I’ll have to try take some better ones tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

It too sure on the silkie, but possible cockerel for the d’uccle
As for the feathers on your silkie it could just be scruff for a week or two until the feathers fill in. Hopefully looking better in a week or two.

Hello! That silkie will have to wait. Though I am impressed at how well you took care of Mama's rejects.
