Hey everyone. I got 9 chicks from Cackle (fox and feed) on February 23rd and everything was great. Until Thursday one of them starting showing bent toe. So we gently wrapped with cardboard and vets tape. However she didn’t like it and didn’t move around a lot. I removed the tape after 36 hours and her feet swelled up and now they have blisters all over them.

Now I think maybe it wasn’t bent toe, but Bumblefoot is for older chicks. Please help.

So now I’ve been cleaning with Peroxide and Iodine.

What was the temperature when you received your chicks? It likes like frostbite.
The chicks are in the house and have been since I received them. But we’re in SoCal and it’s been quite cold. They flew here from cackle and I picked them up at the feed store. I thought that as well. It’s been very cold this year. Going down to 32 some nights. But they’ve been under their heat light inside the house and all the other chicks are fine. She’s still eating and drinking and walking when she has to.

Are the pics all of the one chick? They do resemble frostbitten feet. How tight was the tape that you used? Did they have a heat pack in the shipping box, and how many days did they spend in shipping?

About all you can do at this point is to make sure the chick gets enough to eat and drink. I would make it a chick chair to get it upright, and it should be separated in the brooder with a barrier. You can let it visit with the other chicks as long as it doesn’t get pecked. Use Vetericyn Wound Spray or Betadine on the feet. You also can soak the feet once a day in warm Epsom salts water, but I am very afraid that it may lose the feet.
