On Thursday I ordered 7 rare Ayam Cemani chicken eggs and they JUST arrived and one egg. They are the rarest and most valuable chicken breed in the WORLD. I'm in 4H and the leader is out of town until who knows what time on Monday and she has the incubator. I know you're supposed to let the eggs sit/settle for "at least 24 hours" because they were being shipped. The seller said on Wednesday that the eggs were " week old ", but now the are even older! I'm worried they won't hatch and especially that the incubator isn't ready! That was the only day that I could of ordered them so I had no choice, because the very next day he was raising the price to 455 instead of $160 (the price I bought them). He said that these eggs HAVE to be incubated 24 hours after settling or else they could get damaged/ not hatch!!! WHAT DO I DO?!?! I get the eggs to day and 24 hours after settling would be Sunday, and my leader with the incubator won't be ready until an additional day!!! Do we have to buy an incubator today, run it for 24 hours or until the eggs have settled then put the eggs in??? PLEASE HELP THESE EGGS ARE TOO PRECIOUS TO GET DAMAGED!!! Help would be very much appreciated!

I would talk to others in your 4-H group and see if someone has one you can borrow, or buy one today. For the money you spent on the eggs it would be worth buying an incubator to save them. Either that or post on a local chicken group on FB asking for one. Good luck!!

Relax. Your eggs will be fine for another couple of days....even a week for that matter. Put them in a cardboard egg carton in a cool quiet room round fat end UP so the air cells stay at the correct end. Set the carton so one end is a bit higher than the other....a DVD case underneath one end works well. Every few hours, switch the end so the eggs tilt the opposite direction. 24 hours is the MINIMUM you should settle shipped eggs....many of us settle eggs for 48 or more for different reasons. You DO want to try and get them into a 'bator as soon as possible after 24, but don't run out and buy one if you have one coming Monday. Cemani eggs are very hardy and seem to survive shipping well, unlike say, Silkie eggs, which often have problems.

Thank you so much that was helpful and I am so relieved! That's a life-saver!

Hi,
Where are you? If you are in driving distance, I have a Brinsea Mini Advance incubator
for 7 eggs I am not using and would be glad to loan you.

They are currently 8 days old (at least the seller said). We found a very great and sturdy incubator on craigslist for $100 and tomorrow morning we will get it and once the temperature and humdity is correct we will put them in. I've been doing my research on incubating eggs and have read lots about it so I'm pretty sure I know how to keep the eggs safe. Here's the link to this incubator we'll get- does it look like a good one? Should we get it? We might offer him a lower price because we called him and asked him when we could pick it up earlier today and he said he'll be home at 6:00 PM.
So we drove more than halfway there (a 20 minute drive) and he called us to say he won't be home until way later. So we asked him if we should just stay in the town and watch a movie or something for a few hours until he was home but he said, no way we won't be home until way late. So we drove all the way back home. Once we walked in the door he called saying, you can come over and get it I'm home! Well that was a waste of gas and our time! And he even said I was just out in *blah blah* which is the town we live in. So all this time he was in our town and he could of brought the incubator! That was a big waste so we might have to offer him $80 or something... Do you think that's reasonable? Should we get an incubator from another person? This incubator is closer to our budget than most others and it looks

rather sturdy... WHAT DO WE DO?!?!?

If you've never hatched eggs, I'd absolutely wait for he experienced person with the proven incubator. I would never use an unknown to me incubator on expensive eggs. One temp spike and you're done.
