Today is day 7 of the incubation process of my 8 coturnix quail eggs.

I came home yesterday and my power was out! I had no idea how long the power was out but the incubator was well below 70 degrees fareinhit. Immediately, I put the incubator in my car. The incubator was in the car for 10 to 15 minutes before the power came back on. While in the car, the incubator got to 120 degrees! I brought it inside and took the lid off until it cooled down to 80 and then I plugged it in. Today, the temperature stayed at a steady 100 degrees. Have all the embryos died? Is there any chance that I will still get at least one chick out of the 8 eggs? Thank you in advance.

Oh geez, I'm not sure.

I've never incubated quail eggs, but I know with chicken eggs it is always better for the eggs to get cooler than normal rather than warmer than normal. Because when a mom hatches them she can get up for up to an hour or 2 a day, and the eggs will cool off a little during that time.

I don't know how quail eggs are, but that's pretty hot. I would say you're probably pretty lucky if you get any to hatch... keep in mind if they got too hot and they do hatch, that could possibly be enough to cause deformities, though I can't say that for sure. So just be prepared either way.

I hope you have good luck with them, and definitely keep us updated :)

I'm sorry about your situation, I know whenever we think we screw anything with our eggs up we feel terrible, as anyone would.

Thank you so much for the quick reply I really appreciate it. And I will keep you updated and I will keep trying until I hatch some quail!

It all depends on how long it was that hot. About 106ish is lethal temperature for a chick, but the internal temp would have to reach that temperature. 120 is pretty dang hot, but if it was only for a minute or two, you may still have hope.

Was the 120 temperature taken inside the incubator or just inside the car?

It was at 120 inside the incubator for probably about 3 to 4 minutes but the incubator was in the car for about 15 minutes. I candled the eggs today and the inside of each egg is still liquidy and the embryos look ok but I just hope they're not dead

I once and an incubator spike to around 120 before when I was gone for the day, all the eggs died right in the middle of lockdown. I have no clue how long it was that high so yours might still be fine but I'm sure someone more experienced will know better:)

Thank you and that sucks about all your eggs dying in lockdown

Yea, that was my first time hatching quail, this time around three have hatched and one more on the way. (I had to cull one of the three) it was a terrible hatch rate out of 28 shipped eggs but I'm still happy some hatched.
