ok so I am new to hatching chickens and geese. So far I have hatched a happy and healthy 8 goslings and five chickens. My last gosling to hatch though I believe had spraddle leg but also something else was wrong with her as well. She was extremely off-balance she was always falling on her back and couldn’t seem to stay upright. She could swim excellently backwards but when she would try to swim forwards she would flip over underwater. It was almost as if her back was curved backwards and she was too top-heavy. I tried a splint to help with the Spraddle leg but she didn’t make it. I have a new gosling who just hatched yesterday and this one appears to have similar problems. This one has Spraddle leg I believe. I put a splint on if him a few hours after hatch and he seems to be doing much better. His leg is still a little splayed out but he can walk on his own without the splint now. However I just tried to let him go for his first swim (I was told this was good for strengthening Spraddle legs) and he can’t keep his head out of the water. He doesn’t flop over backwards like the other gosling. But his heads stays right in the water. What’s wrong?!??!! First is walking without splint. Second is swimming I just put in for 2 secs so I can show what I mean so I can have accurate replies. Someone please help I don’t want to lose another.
