Help! What's wrong w/ her vent *graphic pics*

You may have to physically clean the poop off. Soak her again in warm water and start picking!! If you try to wait until tomorrow, it might be too late - she could die before then.

Good luck!!

you need to soak that butt in soap luck warm water for 10min and start pick at it or push one side of of it. soak it again until u loose that up.put oil around the vent too. i don' t know what to give a chicken to make them poop runny. it look like very constipated chicken. maybe someone here can help make the poor to pooped . let her out of the dog cage to exercise.

I just now looked at a thread and the thread owner had her chickens booty soaking in a bucket. Try that.

I don't know if I'd pick it. It might be a scab. I would check to see if the vent is open. Use gloves or a plastic bag over your hand.

She seems the same today. She is pooping very small droppings quite frequently with lots of water in them. The poor thing... her vent just seems so swollen and protruded. She is eating and drinking fine. No egg laying today so far.

I plan to repeat the warm soak, oil, and Vaseline today and will get new pictures posted.

Thanks for all's concern and help!

I just remembered something! .... For the last couple of weeks I have been finding an egg in my boxes with quite a bit of blood on the shell. I haven't had one in over a week but I wonder if this hen was laying them?

It is sort of impossible to know unless you get the gob off/out.

please tell me it is off/out of her. Im really worried about this.

I have been reading posts on eggbound and wonder if this is her problem because her vent is so protruded and she seems to keep flexing it. I will follow the advice in an old post of continuing the soaks and putting her on top of warm towels. This post also mentioned that other hens will peck the vent when protruded so that may explain the scabs...???

For now, I plan to treat as if she is eggbound. If this is the case, I hope she will pass that darn egg!
