Hen Spur - does it need a trim?

Hey all,

My hen has one random spur and it’s getting long. Should i be concerned? I can trim it if need be - I don’t want her to harm herself and end up with bumble foot. Any advice appreciated. Thx.

Given the direction in which the spur is growing, I would trim it.

Yes, at least trim the tip off. I've used dog nail clippers to do this.
Best to have some corn starch handy in case you cut into the quick.

x2. Pretty quick and easy. If you're worried about taking too much off, just snip a bit at a time and maybe do it over multiple sessions.

another way that might work to trim spurs is to use a dog nail grinder.
