HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Folks I am going to put up the pictures I took tonight of the nine eggs I have. They were put under my hen on August 30th so today is day 14. This is my first hatch so please tell me about the condition of my eggs. Do they look okay except the two I marked that I think they are nothing?

It is heartbreaking when something like this happens but there is always a reason. By day 10, if the egg is fertile, you should be seeing something like this:

Thanks Brookhavens for your help and sympathy.

What is everyones's opinion or ideas about hatching during the winter?
I ask because my husband says no more after these but I still will want a few more plus I figure if I hatch now, well assume the next batch comes out mid to late Nov. then those I want to keep will be growing and the others will be some 4+ months old and then I can sell them off for a little more come spring because they will be a little older and you will be able to tell what they look like and or sex.

Or is this just the addiction talking

I can't help you with the hubby, but I can tell you that we got our first chickens in the mail on January 25th this year. We didn't have any problems with it being winter time other than our coop wasn't ready for them and it kept getting stalled by the weather. The were in the brooder in the house for a month or so (never again, they would have been fine in the garage) and then in the garage for a couple months. I'm done for the year because I would like get my garage back from the broodies before it starts to snow. But, I'll totally enable you so there are more chicks in the world.

hahaha I bet you be a great enabler
and oh got the hubby things handled - lol BUT as much as I do not like to say (hehehe), he may be right. That is his point, he just doesn't want to deal with the colder weather, brooder in garage and/or in a little building right beside garage etc.

I have to admit, not that it's getting old, but after this batch I think I will be ready for a break from the whole "mother hen" role, at least for a bit.

I just started with chickens in June, have 33 now (not including the 16 viable eggs in incubator right now) and all but 8 have started out in our brooder under light and not all at once. It's like I get 6-10 graduated into coop and have another 6-10 going into the brooder. Momma needs a break. I'm going to try my best to be strong after this hatch and wait until at least January
