Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Ok Goosed. This is what I do. I only free beak/nares at first with the small hole. I swab membrane around and under with qtip to check veining. I do this every 1-2 hours. As the veining recedes, I slowly work the front of face/right eye area to keep it unstuck from membrane. This is always a PITA because it gets smushed on upper right side, but I purposefully leave head smashed into shell, instead of freeing it. You have seen enough of my pics to see the cradle I make to keep head in.

The worst spots to focus keeping moist is the front tip at bottom and the upper right side where the head is. I chip away teeny pieces each time to get it better lubricated and unstuck.

It takes HOURS, if not days to hatch it out. These guys all had externally pipped for around 24 hours when I started. The first one was already zipping, so it only took 4 hours to hatch. These other two took 15 hours. Over the night, my hubby and I took turns setting alarm hourly to check, but mostly they were left alone for about 7-8 hours. Then, it still took me about 4 hours to hatch them once they showed me they were zipping.

When I had to internally pip Molasses, it took me 60 hours to hatch him out.

ETA: I try to limit the time out of bator for each session to 5 minutes, or when they start to feel cooler in my hand. Then, it is important to not open bator for an hour to allow the heat/steam to work its way through baby, and to let the baby rest. I also add super hot water to get the quick heat/steam when returning baby.

Ok. I can do this!! lol. I'm going to be patient to see if he can do some by himself (hopefully) if I keep it moist enough for him to work his way out. The last baby was able to, but not as shrinky. I've had strong babies thus far...so maybe that trend will continue. I'll just do like you instructed and go with the flow.

I just saw that I have a chicken ex pipped, and several others int pipped! The one pipped in my hand! That was pretty cool.

Hi there. Yesterday I brought home my first two geese and their one baby. They are Embden geese. The man who i bought my pair from was selling the rest of his flock this weekend at our local auction and had a mama who had a nest that he was also going to sell. So he was going to just leave the eggs to die. So i offered to take the eggs home. I already had my still incubator set up with one duck egg in it waiting to hatch (duck egg was put in late) I set them up in my incubator but the man didnt know how long the mom had been sitting on them, he guessed about two weeks. Now heres the part im worried about. Last night after i fell asleep and my boyfriend was still up he heard some peeping coming from my incubator. I also thought i herd some first thing this morning. But now i hear nothing! I added more water to my tray this morning but other wise i have not touched anything. Anyone have any thoughts or advice for me? Did I hurt them moving them? why would they stop piping ?

Here they are. As you can see, the newly hatched is acting like a drunken sailor... could not get it to stay still.

Lupine, have you candled the eggs? If you heard peeping, you would need to increase humidity to 75-80% to avoid the inner membrane from suctioning onto the baby inside and causing it to either get stuck or suffocate if the membrane goes over beak/nares.

I tried to candle them. The light i use for my chicken eggs didnt work! the eggs are pretty dirty and i didnt know if i should try washing them off at this point since they had just spent an hour in a box in the car. I raised the humidity and when i added water this morning i added hot water to make it steamy in there after i opened it.. My last eggs started piping a good day before there was any sign of hatching and were quiet for a hours at a time during the first day. am i just being impatient? but since we woke up so far they havent made any noise.

Aww, they are so cute. I hope I get some out of all these eggs. I'm afraid mine weren't packed quite like yours, not too much bubble wrap in their little boxes, and shipped on their sides, but I'm still hoping for a good showing. Just think, in 24 hours they'll be running everywhere!

Hows the other two babies today?
