I'm new to chickens too, and I have a mix of brown egg layers. The barred rocks are by far the best with younger children. I have 2 I got as chicks and 2 I got as adults, and all of them run right up to my 3 yr old nephew to get treats and be picked up- they are great hens!

I think Im going to try and go for the Barred rocks

I think they are a treat for they eye. I wish I could find some Black Jersey Giants though..
Oh well maybe later!
