I had this thought too. I only wanted 10 tops, i'm now at 22 oops :)
I know I probably have way too many boys so that will take my numbers down.
I feel better now! :lau Am in the same boat - I know there will be drakes, and wanted to be sure I got at least a few layers. Isn't "straight run" fun?

Your odds for girls should be very good - congratulations on your flock!!

I'm reading this and thinking what happens to all those extra ducklings from TSC?
I'm avoiding TSC too, although an employee there told me that they don't sell ducks in MA, you have to order them at a minimum of 30!
Thursday I was as in NH for work and saw a TSC, I was tempted but couldn't find a place to park the truck. Just what I need a truck full of ducks!

I was wondering the same...but if they keep putting them on clearance, they might sell them all. Hopefully. It's probably a good thing I don't work there...;)

A road trip with lots of ducklings sounds like it would be memorable! :gigWow - 30 minimum? They must sell mostly to larger operations in MA..?

Yeah the minimum is 6 chicks. But I just looked up the law and it' s 24 ducklings if under 2 months of age Prior to May 1st! They're clearly trying to discourage people buying them for Easter, which I wholeheartedly agree with. There's an exemption for school class projects too.

You can always ask them what hatchery they get them from. Then you can find out what the hatchery has and try to compare to find out what they are.
This is what I do. That's why I've been trying to find photos of Welsh Harlequins that came specifically from TSC. So I can recognize them if I ever see them. Doing an image search on the internet brings up very different WH ducklings, depending on who hatched them.

That's my reasoning, too! I figure I need to buy twice as many ducklings as the number of ducks I want to end up with. :) Then eat or sell the drakes. Last year I was lucky, and I had enough drake buyers, that I didn't have to eat any of my males myself.

I have been wondering this myself, the clearance ducks tug at my heart strings anytime I go in but I just cant take anymore. A google search of where the unsold ones go hasn't yielded much info :(
