How do you deal with "the people from work"?

Yeah, I'll take them to the food bank before I just give them away to my coworkers now. There are others that need free eggs more than they do! And my dogs really like eggs.

I know just what you mean. I gave away a few dozen to co-workers and told them I was going to start selling them if they wanted more. Well this one woman was all yes, yes I'll buy them. When I told her I wanted $2.50 for them she had a fit. I think that is a fair price for free range eggs. Go price them at the health food stores.

Well I took in a couple of dozen and 2 of the girls split a dozen and this woman took 1. She gave me $1.50 because that's all she had on her at the time. I'm waiting to see if she offers up the other dollar. If not I won't be selling any more eggs to her.

If you think you need an excuse which I don't think you do, as you could take your business elsewhere.
Let them know how much the feed costs and how much is actually involved in taking care of nice healthy chickens.
That are not all full of chemicals like some of the ones you get from the store.
Then if they still want to be ignorant then let them. Let them see the difference for themselves. To store bought and home grown eggs. The yolks are so much prettier in homegrown eggs.
They look 100% better.
Even when I did buy them it was usually from the amish at the farm market.
Thats another one tell them to go to the farm market their eggs are even higher there.

Hmm, that may be a good idea - giving away half dozens once. Eventually, I may end up with enough leghorns and sexlinks to have enough for the VFW monthly and then just keep my marans' and araucanas' eggs to sell. Having them as "unique" eggs, I wouldn't feel bad charging $3/doz and I could get some half dozen cartons for initial freebies. Thanks!

My first dozen to a future egg customer is free. Then I charge 2 bucks. Still cheap. Some of my customer have pointed out that I could sell them for more

. They are all real good about returning my egg cartons.
Only a few have been a problem and they don't get eggs anymore.

I just had a conversation with a friend whose neighbor sells eggs this is how it went:

Amy: "John, I know you will be having your own eggs soon, but in the meantime if you need eggs my neighbor has a surplus."

Me: "Ok, great. What is she selling them for?"

Amy: "$1.50. I know that sounds expensive, but Krogers is selling their organics for $4.00 a dozen."

Me: "That sounds too cheap. I was planning on selling mine for $3.00. I think $3.00 is fair for all parties involved."

Amy: "$3.00!!!! That's a lot of money for a dozen eggs!"

At that point I ended the conversation since she already proved my point by saying Krogers sells their organics for $4.00. I still plan on selling mine for $3.00, and may charge $3.50. I've been in sales for some time and I've never been afraid of getting paid as long as it is fair for the customer and myself. If Krogers is selling their organics for $4.00 (or as someone else pointed out Egglands best is $3.89) then $3.00 or $3.50 is still offering a value for a better product.

Don't be afraid to get out of your eggs what they are worth. What are they worth? Only you can put that value on your eggs...you pay for the feed, you are the labor, etc. Fresh eggs will sell, your customers will find you!
