Not encouraging anyone to keep Broilers as pets.
I ordered Buff Orpingtons and three weeks in we realized something was off...
By five weeks we knew for sure what we had, but as there were only four of them, my daughter wanted to keep them. She did an excellent job for a 15 year old.
The bird we still have had become a pet, and yes we treat her like a queen. So do all the Chickens and Roosters.
Unfortunately there are plenty of newbies out here that do grow too feel affection for their Chooks who wins up getting surprised with Broilers in the mix.
And most people that are faced with this suprise do their best to learn as much as they can about these beautiful, miss understood birds.
They're not monster birds, and if cared for properly are beautiful birds that can live comfortable likes for up to 18-20 months.... Not years.

I was responding more to the person above who claimed very erroneously that the longevity of CX could be ten years or more. See here:

Broiler can live long like Cornish cross can live about 20 years if care by a good owner I know people who have Cornish cross for about 10 years ..

Only good Care diet is needed

This is the sort of misinformation that sometimes leads people to buy them as pets... hence my comment about heartbreak. I also get what you're saying about getting attached. I had to learn this exact mistake with a broad breasted turkey I tried to keep as a pet whom I was very attached to. He made it to a little over a year before his quality of life deteriorated to the point where I had to put him down. He couldn't walk, and he was going blue at the extremities. This was even with a diet and exercise. He had no quality of life. While I do buy BB turkeys and CX birds, it is always with the knowledge that they are indeed food, and not pets. Delving into the emotions on the topic is a whole different story. (and a MUCH longer post!)

I understand I also read in books and on internet mu Friend @Tanya22 also having a broiler whose not 1 year old yet and having serious problems since 3rd month her legs are spilt and suddenly devloped melanoma

Bird to bird differ
We cannot predict how long.they live it's a lifespan mentioned in tales
Some cats live more the their lifespan
That's why we can't predict the lifespan graph

Ours were bought by accident. We were told they were buffs...
But I learned so much and loved so much, there's no regrets.
We had a Roo that hit 20 lbs! HeiHei was Huge! He lived to 5 months. His Queen, Penny was 16 lbs.
Allison hit 12.5 and all we're very active.
Penny and HeiHei died the same say, Allison a month later at almost 7 months.
Reese was the runt at 9 lbs. She's almost 8 months old now and is still very active. She's an excellent layer and other than not being able to fly she doesn't think she's any different from the other hens❤️
I have a big broiler hen who was picked up on side of road. Most likely on her way to slaughter. She has no feathers on her belly or bottom. She can walk but it’s not easy for her since she’s so big. I’ve had her for a few days and she was good about letting me give her a bath and blow her dry. She actually seemed to enjoy. My daughter in law thinks it’s unkind to keep her alive because she said her legs are at risk of breaking due to her girth. I say she deserves a chance. I’m feeding her layer crumbles but should I be feeding her differently to help with her weight?

I am currently watching some Broiler as pets who are 5+ years but they were closely monitored for their health one I know having heart issues his mom doing the treatment and he's all good
