I'm currently building a new coop and I'm wondering how big it should be built. I plan on having an 8x5 sleep area with a 30ft run and I want to know will it hold at least 20 chickens minimum?

I usually don't get much snow.Welcome! The more space the better, and I think at least four sq. ft. per bird, preferably more. Crowding is a disaster, and there will be times when everyone will be in.
Are you in snow country? Then more space, and a covered run, or you will be shoveling a lot in winter.

It would be like 30' or 40', possibly 50'x8'ft. I live in the piedmont area of NC.Short answer, No.
Run is 30' by ???...or is it 30sqft?
Much depends on your goals and climate.
Here's a good article to read about space:

My question was about their roosting area which would be 8x5 probably .Either I'm confused or you are....
....50' x 8' would be 400 square feet...great for 20 birds.
