How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

They have plenty of calcium and their eggs seem strong enough to me (stronger than the store-bought eggs I'm used to, anyway). I guess I need to get some fake eggs. I've also heard that golf balls may stop them if they are intentionally breaking eggs because they think they can't break them or something. I don't know. I'm very sad about all this broken egg business!

Bruce has good advice. Fake eggs AND collecting often helps a lot. That's one way to find out who is doing it and isolating/culling the bird/s.
Once they all figure out how good they taste it's very difficult to stop.
The fake egg, if they try to break it and are unsuccessful can be a deterrent.
Collecting often will allow you to remove the residue before other flock members find and eat it.

Well, I posted egg count too early..... Make that 3 eggs from 3 hens for today again. Only one day since I got them (3 year olds) did they less than two... and only 2 days did they give me only 2. Those days I was working right outside the nest box attaching support braces on the shed to make a more permanent coop which will be more secure against predators. The current little thing was an expensive but of cheaply made materials. 8 chicken coop my foot.... my three barely fit the back part. They must be counting the screened part AND the nest boxes in the count for space. More of a tractor or ducking spot from overhead threats.

Yeah like 5 adults fitting on a full mattress without being on top of each other.... Somebody would have to get up for the center one to get out of bed!!!!! NOBODY BREATHE!!!

Any way UP MY EGG COUNT TO 3! Everyone laid again. Enough for me for now. Can't do any better until I do a bigger protected coop and increase flock size of hens.

We've been getting 12 or 13 every day from 16 hens, who'll be one year old May 1st. Our best day was 15. My two easter eggers lay almost every day. When we give away or sell our eggs we put one, and one only, green egg in the carton, always in the upper right hand corner. These are mostly extra large to Jumbo's. It's sort of our trademark.
