Hummus help please

One of the best ways to dampen one's appetite through the day if you're trying to lose weight or if you are hypoglycemic/diabetic and want to keep your blood sugar even:

Take a hard boiled egg- pop out the yolk for the chooks- and fill the center with hummus, like a deviled egg.

WONDERFUL way to get lasting, even energy without bad calories,

Protein bomb! That's what we call them around here. Some of the starchiness of the hummus gives an instant boost, but the protein gives an even release of fuel for an hour and a half or 2 hours.

Good stuff. I eat a couple for lunch sometimes.

Took me forever to find out what this was. All I could think of was the stuff you want to add to you garden, lol. You know like dark well composted organic stuff you mix in your dirt. That all that kept coming to mind.

Haha! That's what I thought this thread was going to be about when I initially clicked on it. Learn something new everyday. I suppose if you buy some and don't like it you could put it out on the compost pile. Hahaha. (I'm actually snacking on the stuff I got to try right now. Mine won't hit the compost pile.)

redhen, I make my own too. It is made in a jiffy with a food processor. I like to make my own as I can add more garlic and/or cumin and of course olives too. I had canned roasted red pepper spread and I am going to try adding that in a small amount to see how it turns out. I believe this is a Greek dish. You wont be disappointed.

This is my own invention.
I can my own garbonzo beans in pint jars.
I use 1 pint jar juice and all and a can of cornbeef and process into a paste in food processor.eat with wheat crackers.

Yum, all of those ideas sound good.

A question - can you freeze hummus? DH picked up a large tub at Sam's Club. It's quite good, but is alot for just 2 of us.

We eat it often and have forever in my house, but I am always interested in ethnic and geographical variations. You have me interested with the pine nuts. Do you put them in it like instead of tahini or just sprinkle on top?

our favorite way is with chickpeas, good olive oil, tahini and lemon. we usually add garlic and red pepper as well, and then serve with cucumbers, feta and kalamata olives for toppings for those who want them. I use pita but the kids just spread it on the cucumber slices

Finally I found some Tahini!!!!!! Someone suggested that sometimes it was with the peanut butter...looked there but couldn't find it....then I thought maybe it was in the organic section.....went and looked there and found it. Yay!!!!

i make my own, but don't bother adding tahini. i sautee some onions and garlic until soft and then puree with chick peas in processor with lots of olive oil and lemon and fresh oregano if i've got it. i serve it to clients and guests and it's always a hit. i make deviled eggs with the leftovers. i half boiled eggs and put the yolks through a ricer then season and mix with humus and stuff the egg.
