I am crazy. Crazy diet change/bet

Just looking at that diet makes me cringe...could someone pass me another steak ooh and a piece of chocolate cake?

Actually, the foods my parent's eat are very tasty and you can basically eat enough to not feel deprived, so it is quite satisfying.

Even after all these years my family still eats dishes that we learned to eat from my parents and the boys still love them. My boys were very small when my parents started this and they adapted well to eating salads, whole wheat breads, honey instead of sugar, meatless chili, etc.

We still do not use dairy, make all our bread instead of buying from the store and salad is a one course meal here. The boys are now grown but they still will beg me to make them one of my salads.

What concerns me is I don't see legumes or goodies in the posted diet, nor do I see any distinction on what veg is chosen - a big iceberg salad is junk compared to something make with spinach, herbs, greens, and every vegetable you can throw in it (LOTS of color!)

I actually do not consume milk

and I agree dairy provides minimal needs. However, I don't think I got enough good sources of calcium when I was younger, along with having everything against me (tall, white, female, Nordic ancestry). I don't see an emphasis on the posted diet on the types of leafy greens - kale, greens, seaweed etc. (I now do eat greens, spinach, and sardines quite a few times a week, and my blood calcium and Vit D is now normal. I'm actually rebuilding some bone finally).

The posted diet doesn't show what the caloric intake would be - and it sure doesn't look near enough to be the minimum 1500 cal or probably 2000+ call needed for a tall youth.

I'm also concerned on the lack of protein - even vegan forms such as legumes/grains to get good complete proteins.

I have no issue with a balanced vegan/raw diet - not at all. I know someone who looks to be beating ALS with an organic raw diet of foods that are juiced and he drinks through a straw, though hopefully he will regain use of his mouth as he's somehow maintained use of his legs and hands. His story is pretty amazing.

I have a few vegan friends who loosely follow a raw food diet - but they do it in a healthy way. It's not for me, I already have enough genetic junk that causes my body to be hateful. One small example is I'm incapable of maintaining blood pressure - so in order to stay at 120/80 I get to consume 10,000mg of salt a day. That's a whopping 10 grams. It's "good" for me and keeps my heart somewhat stable, but it sure as heck is bad for Joe Blow and his' 4th bypass....and I have doctor orders to do so.

I don't know that the posted sampling of this diet is a complete detail of the diet~my folks started with a big book and video on it....and I would agree that it definitely depends on the type of leafy greens. Iceberg lettuce is basically water, as is celery.

I know my folks built on their initial knowledge base after starting this diet and added good foods as they went along. I would reference their materials but someone stole their copy out of their house...go figure.

Actually, God designed us to eat milk until we are weaned. After that, understandably, the breasts dry up and are no longer producing milk. This means this is no longer needed in the diet. This happens for all baby mammals and then they too no longer have milk as a staple in their diets. Cows, horses, sheep, etc....all start eating grass, not milk.

I'm not disagreeing with this, I'm pointing out that the Reverend does not mention it, instead he makes the rather sweeping statement of 'All milk is not allowed'

In other words, don't knock it until you've tried it!

I don't think most people are 'knocking' the diet per se, more they are suggesting that it may not be a suitable for a 6ft tall young male how currently weighs around 125lbs, and any unintentional weight loss due to the diet would probably outweigh the benefits of the diet itself.

Hmmmm.... seems that only eating vegetables puts you in a really bad mood too. Bad enough to murder your brother!

That's it, I'm switching to vegetables only - I'll beat him to death with a stick of celery

Screw the celery, beat 'em with the zuchinni LOG my neighbor kindly gave to our chickens. You could play baseball with that thing!

My mother was 115 lbs when she started this lifestyle change. She lost a whoppin' 10 lbs over the past 15 years....

She lost those pounds in the first few months and then leveled out.

This is not a weight loss diet....if you are overweight you may shed pounds until you reach your optimal weight. If you are already at that weight, it just replaces bad nutrition for better. Empty calories for ones that actually fuel your body correctly.

I know everyone imagines salads and fruits and nothing else. Its not really about that...whole grains, good fats, legumes, etc. are also used in this diet.

But then....I probably don't know much about it all having only witnessed two elderly people put it into action for the past 15 years.

As a nurse I am well aware of the dangers of fad diets and I was skeptical when my parents started this....and then I started listening and actually paying attention to what they were doing. Now I can say that their health was improved dramatically and they have been living proof that this diet is affective for good health.

I would guess, but could well be wrong, that your mother is not 6ft tall, nor, rather obviously, a man.

Most posts here are asking the OP to reevaluate his choice of 'bet' due to the fact that the diet appears to promote wieght loss.
If the OP was to lose 10lbs in a matter of months that would put him well into the 'super-skinny' department which can often lead to health problems and also simple problems of finding pants to fit and sitting on hard surfaces when you don't have a butt.

I know that there are some people who can eat as much of whatever kind of food they like and never get fat (I'm one of them) and I'm on the cusp of underweight/normal BMI & HWCharts, if I were to lose 10 lbs I wouldn't be happy, if I gained ten pounds (but not fat) I'd be pleased.

I'm not knocking you, or your family, either, I'm actually quite pleased to see someone promoting the diet so that we can all further increase our understanding of the diet itself.
The jokes and quips, I hope, are intended to be lighthearted rather than witty sarcasm.

I'm not going to speak for everyone else, but I read the OP's postings and said that he shouldn't do it and it's NOT because I'm imagining salad and fruit and nothing else.

I said that because the OP posted that he'd be eating salads and fruit and doing colon cleanses and nothing else. I went to the site and it clearly says that it's not to be used for people (younger/kids) that are still in their growing and maturing years AND there was a lot to read about modifying/adapting the diet.

I suggested then, and am now, again, that the OP do a LOT more reading and research before they start this bet because what they posted their typical diet as being on this plan is not only unhealthy, it's NOT what the website suggeted.
