I got a puppy! The 1st one in 16 yrs!** New pics! post 53**

Hi.

I am happy for you and your family that you are getting to have the joys of having a puppy in your lives. They come with alot of happiness, and bring plenty of trials and experiences for you and your children to practice responsibility in caring for it too. What they give in return is worth it, the love and care....thats between you, your family, and your puppy. That puppy needed a home, and you care for it, good for you.

As to the breed, well, that particular one does have a little bit of higher drive/instict to take care of it's own needs than, say, a pedigreed couch potato type pooch. It may be more interested in a moving target, and you will need to be very diligent in your training. Dont take anything forgranted. It may not ever be able to go play freely out in your chicken yard, but you probably know that??

You can have a dog, and love a dog, and have pets too...if you can keep them all safe together. I didnt. I have learned the hard way, at the expense of the lives of my pets. Some pets mix.

I sure hope she does ok with my chickens. Yesterday she chased a guinea and a RIR. I scolded her and told her BAD BELLA! She did it again today.

I am not sure why she would want to chase a alien type screaming guinea! Maybe she wanted the noise to stop!!

I know I did. But seriously if I have to I will keep her inside and if we go out she will have to be on a log chain on the other side of the house.

Update on Bella!
She is growing like a weed! She is still inside. She is doing OK with the chickens, she mostly likes that they run and she gets to chase them. Hers ears are beginning to stand up. I have taught her how to sit, sit pretty, shake, lay down, roll over, and we are working on speak and stay.

Here are a few pics of her.
This was taken on the 2nd of June.

I love her to pieces! She is the best dog I have ever owned.

I am so glad I got her!!!!

OMG she is beautiful!!! I used to know a German Shepherd/Wold hybrid who had a lot of the same look she does as a puppy. He was brilliant and HUGE....he also learned to unlock the deadbolt to take himself out to potty so he wouldn't have to ask.

I am just glad my husband doesn't look on this site....I have him convinced he is thrilled we are getting a Great dane (he is a Wolf freak!!!!). LOL

I volunteer with a national wolf hybrid rescue, and own two of them myself (both rescues). So, I just want to say that the idea of wolf hybrids "turning on you" is completely untrue. They are not unpredictable - but you have to go into their ownership with an understanding of wolf behavior and body language. A great site to read is:

Anyway, I do want to congratulate you on your beautiful pup!

She's definitely not 50% wolf, might be a low-content though (25% or less) - but looks mainly GSD to me. As she gets older, it will be much easier to tell. Regardless, I'm sure she will make a wonderful and sweet pet.

Here are photos of my two.

Willow - about 25% wolf (in one photo, pictured with Bandit, my Husky/GSD mix) -

Jasper - somewhere between 25% and 50% wolf -

Yeah....be careful with the whole "oh look! The puppy is playing with the chickens!" Can turn into "NO!!!!!" really quick.
