If I were to place an order today. The chicks will be shipped on May 8, 2018! What’s the deal, I know the breed I want is available mid February but is there a reason I have to wait so long? Can I track my order?

The reason you would have to wait that long is that the breed you want isn't available until that date. What breed are you trying to order? Did you call and confirm availability and that's how you know they're available in February? If they told you they were available in Feb and the website says May, I would just order on the phone and ask for a Feb ship date.

How was it? Any dead on arrival! How many did you order

It was great. I ordered 8, and they told me they'd send an extra male also for added warmth since I was ordering less than 25. However they sent 17! The extra 9 were all blue Cochins. All chicks were healthy on arrival.

We did lose 2 in the first month, one probably from something congenital. The other managed to wriggle under the watered and I think it caught cold. Later we lost 2 the went over fences, and slated 5 cockerels for the stockpot, so now we're are down to 8 hens! How about that?

I’m going to be upset if I get 3 or more males, I’m not selecting males for warmth

You can pay a dollar or so for extra insulation. A few times I kind of regretted I didn't - but those bad boys make delicious soup!
