I have cousins who are from Rhode Island and it absolutely drives me INSANE to listen to them talk

ANNOYS ME TO DEATH! ROFL!!!!!!!! I Think "My Cousin Vinny" every time I see them..

My sister-in-law who lives in NY (not the city, a little upstate) says "coffee" and "Austin" (my son) in a way that I can't even figure out how to put on here phonetically.

That's pretty close. My other sister-in-law that is from the same area (near Poughkeepsie) doesn't say it the same way.

Even though I'm from the south, I don't say the "aw" sound... dawg, hawg, frawg, cawffee, Awstin, etc. I know how to pronounce the "au" sound. My parents and brother, on the other hand... "How is AWstin doing?"

Drives me nuts, and sometimes makes me wish I had named him my 2nd choice... Lance.

Try having a southren accent and a northern one. When I'm in a good mood my DH says I sounds real southren but boy bring out my temper and the yankee really comes out of me.

The great mixture of being raised in the south and having lived outside of Philly for nine years.
