Did you have to get a permit for bobs? I was interested in them but opted with coturnix because of I knew I didn't need a permit and I could keep a lot of them together. From the research I did online, bobs require a permit and a separate cage for each breeding group unless you have a very large aviary. With the qty I'm raising (45ish now and expecting to get up to 100-200.

We are going to be getting some quail this year. How did you decide what breed to get? I was looking into pharoah coturnix quail. Located near the Peoria area.

Hello! We live in Metamora. My daughter has an immune system disorder and cannot eat chicken eggs. Her doctor said it is worth trying quail eggs. We are zoned ag and can raise quail IF we can determine she can eat them. Do you know of anyone local we can purchase an egg from to determine if she reacts before I plunge headlong into raising quail??? Thanks so much!!!

Hi! I'm brand spanking new to this and plan on getting some quail this spring. I'm still in the obsessively researching stage but I figured I should say hi to my neighbors. I'm also in the suburbs of Chicago... unincorporated DuPage. I only plan on having maybe 8-10 birds for eggs. I'm running into the same problem you did with finding local sources. I really don't want to incubate eggs. I've checked Craigslist and it seems my options are driving out to Wisconsin or Indiana for live birds, so we'll see.

How are the quail doing @BReeder! ? I’m in Kane County and wanting button quail but really don’t want to incubate(especially because we don’t even have an incubator!‍) Do you have any button quail or their eggs? Several years ago a neighbor purchased day old button chicks! They came on Day 2 and she has only lost a few by the end of 10days! Sadly, I didn’t grab the info on where she purchased and she moved in the fall. My kids loved the button quail and now we want to get some but definitely want the day old chicks -which nobody will sell and ship or have locally!

I am just raising Jumbo Browns. I previously mentioned I had TX A&M too, but they were a pain in the rear to sex. I decided to send all those to freezer camp.

Yes, you do need one, though it's a fairly easy process.
