My 2yr old silkie girl isn't looking very good this morning and I assume it's an impacted crop? She's usually always on the move scavenging and gorging herself on food... Actually 2 days ago I felt her crop and it was huuuge like a tennis ball coz she really likes seeds... yesterday I noticed she wasn't really herself and was sitting a lot more than usual so I gave her some polyaid, today she is just not really moving at all (but she can, she ran away from me when I came up to her). Her crop doesn't feel super big but it is noticeably firm and does have stuff inside it. I've checked her eyes, nostrils, etc. and she looks fine and alert - just doesn't move much.... do you guys think she has an impacted crop? and if so.... what should I do about it?

Most bird with impacted crop may try drinking extra water to clear the impaction.. They also may not come for their treats.. usually the first clues.

In order to rule it in or out.. may need to moniter.. her intake and check crop size first thing in the AM before access to feed and water. See if this article gives you more clues or information..

When was her last egg? What is her usual feed routine including treats and supplements? Did she molt previously yet? Is she broody often?

Has she been checked for external parasites or ever checked/treated for internal parasites yet?

Hope she returns to "normal" quickly! :fl

I checked her this morning before giving them food - I take their food out at night to discourage possums and rats from coming over for a midnight feast. If it helps, I live in Australia and the past few days have been around 35 degrees and super humid (it finally rained yesterday). My chickens are also free range so they're always eating grass which I have heard may also cause impacted crop if the blades are too long? I have 10 silkies so not sure when her last egg was... she hasn't been broody since January and is probably due for a molt soon... they're fed champion layer with scratch mixed in which they usually pick out before actually eating the layer feed and they've all been treated for internal (levamisole) and external (ivermectin) parasites 3 months ago. I've put her in a quarantine box for now - she's not very pleased about it.
